I noticed that Preservation Hall has a VIP option now. For $30, you get VIP seating, no waiting in lines, and a souvenier badge. Plus, you know for sure that you'll get in. You can order that online.

I had to go for that deal.

The shuttle is round trip for $18 and it lets you off inside the grounds but you need to have a ticket to buy the shuttle or it is $83 day (admission 65+shuttle of 18)for both ticket and shuttle of or from Friday 4/27 and from thurs 5/3. Shuttle leaves from Sheraton and Steamboat Natchez docks downtown.

For JazzFest if you are in NOLA early and have not gotton your ticket yet and want to do the shuttle both way, advanced pakcage sales (shuttle & admission) is $68 (50$ for advanced admission).

If you do this it does not charge you the advanced purchase convenience fee of $8.55 from ticketmaster if you do it online.

That looks like good advice. We'll be taking our bikes, but not sure if that'll work or not. Where do you get shuttle tickets?

        I found a link to it: http://www.graylineneworleans.com/jazzfest.html

Preservation Hall has seating now? I haven't been there for about 2 years, but seats would be nice.

Weather in Jazz Fest is variable. Getting to the fairgrounds from the Business District or French Quarter by bike is not a long way, but it could be incredibly hot and humid, or rainy. Also, the route takes you through some neighborhoods that are sketchy. So, biking it could be . . . uncomfortable.

Weather was great! Lower to mid 80s with some cloud cover. We really enjoyed riding our bikes, and took them everywhere. The traffic moves so slowly downtown, that the bikes just fit right into the flow. It was a great experience, and we really got to see a lot.

Going to JazzFest was a pretty long bike ride from Wyndham Avenue on St. Charles, and the chairs made it worse. But, the second trip I figured out a way to strap the chair on the bike frame and that made it a lot better (my wife's chair had straps and I just carried that on my back).

I thought they always had seats, just not many of them. We went Sunday night, and it was less crowded. Everyone got in, and everyone was able to sit on the benches. I went to New Orleans for a big conference a year and half ago, and did not get to sit down, but had to stand in the back.

The VIP seating is worth the extra price. We got a nice souvenir badge and got first choice on where to sit, and it was very nice to not have to stand in line. If you go during a slow time of year, I wouldn't pay for it. But, if it's busy, definitely worth it.

BTW, if anyone is wondering why the original post is no longer being edited, it's because the restrictions on the new BBS software prohibits me from posting anything longer than 10,000 words. So, if I were to edit the original post, I would lose a lot of the content that is already there.

I definitely recommend Cochon -- did so in my original post. Cochon Butcher just opened recently. We went there this trip, and tried a couple of sandwiches. They were very good. People rave about the sweet potato hot sauce, but we didn't feel that had much flavor beyond just being hot. We tried the Buckboard Bacon Melt, and the Muffaletta, both of which get good reviews. I thought that both were good, but nothing to write home about. The Muffaletta was certainly as good as the one at Napoleon House -- also served warm, like the one at Napoleon House. But it was not better than the other one. Both are good. The Bacon Melt, also good, showcases New Orleans style bacon, which is like a cross between bacon and ham. Very Tasty.

Also, Frank is right about Cochon Butcher. They have a lot of house-made meats and pates in a showcase in the restaurant, which you can take with you.

We arrive tonight. John the limo guy will be picking us up (thanks Frank, so sorry we won't be able to meet you).
I am looking forward to checking out some of these spots, and we are getting a Groupon for a Taste of Nawlins walking food tour. We are not into spicy foods so much, but DH says that is what beer is for!
