ONE of the top names in South Australia's wine industry - Peter Gago - has been catapulted to further stardom after being recognised internationally by the world's most respected experts.
Named overnight by the venerable Institute of Masters of Wine as the global Winemaker's Winemaker of the Year, Mr Gago was rewarded for his body of work with the South Australian-based Penfolds brand.
The Penfolds Chief Winemaker, responsible for overseeing the production of icons like Grange, Bin 389 and Yattarna chardonnay, was present to accept the award at the world's largest annual wine fair Prowein in Dusseldorf, Germany, but his thoughts soon turned to home when receiving the accolade.
