  • Woman on ebola list just croaked in NY.

I guess the breaking news clip says it all. She was on the list but who knows what she actually succumbed to.

It looks like ebola in Brooklyn. Woman was bleeding from her face holes.

Why do we allow travel to places where such deadly infectious diseases are rampant without mandatory lockdown quarantine on return? She died in a hair salon!

Woman Who Died in Brooklyn Tests Negative for Ebola

By MARC SANTORA and EMMA G. FITZSIMMONSNOV. 19, 2014

A woman who died, apparently of a heart attack, at a Brooklyn hair salon and who had recently been in one of the countries most affected by the Ebola outbreak tested negative for the virus, New York City health officials said on Wednesday.

The woman, whose name was not released, came to the United States almost three weeks ago from Guinea, in West Africa, the city’s health department said. She did not show symptoms of the virus before her death, but was being monitored because she was within the 21-day incubation period for the virus.

The city has been tracking about 300 people who have traveled in West Africa.

Fire Department officials said they were called to the hair salon, African Queen Hair Braiding, on Tuesday for a patient in cardiac arrest. The woman was pronounced dead there.

Jim Long, a Fire Department spokesman, said the medical examiner’s office collected blood specimens from the woman and gave them to the health department for testing.

The only person to receive an Ebola diagnosis in the city, Dr. Craig Spencer, recovered and was released on Nov. 11 from Bellevue Hospital Center. He contracted the virus while in Guinea with the aid group Doctors Without Borders.

If a person is back from ebola hot spots and on a " cdc self monitoring list" , but can conduct a regular daily routine during the incubation period and suddenly experience facial hemorrhaging or other ebola like symptoms, then why bother to have self imposed monitoring at all ?

If our soldiers are to be quarantined after leaving ebola hotspots then so should everyone, imo.
