Royal Palm
We stayed at the Royal Palm in April and loved it. The location is good, within walking distance of grocery stores and restaurants. The onsite restaurant food is good and has a special each night. The beach has several palapas available for no charge.
we ended up renting a compact car after the first day so we could explore the island. we had no problems but were careful to not lock the vehicle.

Thanks
Accordingly, many people leave the car unlocked, even with the windows down, and let the thieves rummage to their hearts content.
Of course that means that you never leave anything valuable in the car anywhere in the car, including the trunk.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You shouldn't wear that body.”

When we were at the Villas, our unit was at ground level on the entrance side (facing the hill), and we had both portions of the lockout unit. The patio area for the lockunit was actually below street level, so that if you sat on the patio people walking by on the street actually looked down into the patio. Also, there was a walkway that went around the building, which was often used by guests at the Villas to reach the beach. This path went right next to the patio for the lockout unit.
The patio for the main unit was on the ocean side and hence elevated above ground level. But it overlooked a large open and paved area where a number of trash dumpsters were located and which was also a staging area for storing various construction and building materials. Truck traffic started in that area about 7 a.m.
If we went again, we would not stay in the Villas unless we absolutely needed the larger space.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

Sint Maarten
three options are Royal, Flamingo Villas, Flamingo beach. Royal is your best bet, all are oceanfront mostly all 2 bdrms., centric to alot of restaurants within walking distance, Flamingo villas three bldgs., possible uphill hike no elevators, FBC is the main bldg. checking in on a saturday mostly assured an oceanfront unit. We live on Sint Maarten and sold timeshare for Sunterra now Diamond...have a good stay..
