I'm getting the sense that there is not a viable way to do all a couple normally does (well Internet-wise) on cable or DSL wifi on a mobile plan instead.

    (sigh)

Currently we have Charter in TN and will have Comcast in MI in the near future. Is there a way for TV that we could get it from one provider, say Comcast in MI and stream it somehow to TN? I think we would still have to have Charter for internet in TN.

We only have internet access with Cox. We cut our Cox bill by $200 a couple of years ago. We do not want to get away from our laptops - too much stuff there and bigger screens for older eyes, so we will probably always have internet access.

Our cell phone plan through AT&T gives us 20GB of Data usage per month and when I turn my HotSpot on and use the cellular WIFI for my laptop, it works fine. We were having some issues with our Cox signal for a while (turned out to be a bad router) and I used my HotSpot for my computer for days and it worked great. I do run my iPad on the Hotspot just so I use some of my data. But, if we want to watch Netflix or SlingTV on the iPad, it eats up data and it buffered more than it does with our regular WIFI signal.

We kept our landline phone number and ported it to Magic Jack, so it is an internet phone. It rings on the phones in our house and we can forward Voicemail to our email account, so when we are on vacation, we get the missed calls. I have not been willing to give many people my cell number as Ii do not want to carry it with me all the time. I just prefer to keep it in my purse to that I have it when I am out and about. Hubby does carry his with him and therefore uses his more than I do mine.

We have digital antennas for local TV and use Roku with Netflix & SlingTV and have more to watch than we need to. I get to watch HGTV and Kansas BB of ESPN and hubby watches other stuff on Netflix.
