    Why not?

It's worked for the timeshare industry for 40-some years.

Speaking of using a timeshare membership to run a vacation rental business, that concept is not new, and is almost an automatic thought for some.

I may not be able to remember yesterday, but I do remember that week in 1989 when DW and I took our first vacation, our first timeshare tours, and bought our first week. We went to Westgate when it was just the West Village, with studios in the clubhouse and the Golf Villas. The first thing everyone did is watch an RCI video in the clubhouse. Then, our poor little sales weasel guy had 9 couples, plus kids. No way could he handle that.

We went to Wastegate when it was just a clubhouse, Buildings A & B, and exit tent and a lot of mud.

We went to several others. Tour>>>>>attraction. Tour>>>>>>attraction. Tour>>>>>>attraction.

I remember exactly my fist thought about timesharing, and it was not about the wonderful vacations we would be taking. It was about putting an ad in the Kansas City Star to sell vacations anywhere anyone wanted to go. We'd get them for $99 and sell them for whatever we could get for them. I said that in front of the sale people and they nodded their heads in agreement, that would be a great idea.

Of course, back then I actually did not know how any of this works, so we relied on those nods of encouragement. It would have actually been an innocent violation of membership if I had ever done it.

That did not stop RCI and II from enforcing the non-commercial clause. Allowing it to go on, appearing to endorse that activity, did not stop them from stopping it.

And (I could find where I save it), as Inside Guy said, there are people watching these forums we really don't want, and taking actions based on them.

A little off-topic, I am involved with folks who are non-timeshare owners and with folks who are timeshare owners, and something that is a little perplexing is how each group regards the quality of timeshare resort lodging. I'm not talking about owning timeshares, which we all know the feeling of those who don't own. I'm talking about the quality of timeshare accommodation v. traditional hotels and motels.

We all know the timeshare industry line is that you get so much more and so much nicer. But, now that timeshare resorts are readily available to non-owners, unbiased feedback is also readily available. Personally, I have always been of the feeling that timeshare accommodations, generally, are much nicer than traditional hotels and motels. But, I am on another forum where I have seen some very negative comments about the quality of what I consider to be some very nice resorts.

I have seen a number of people very reluctant to consider "condos" because reviews are so negative.

For example, here is Trapadvisor for Branson Wyndham Meadows, and it is ranked 39 of 149 Hotels in Branson.
