Italy was actually a relatively cheap country before Euro was adopted. No matter what local conditions are, once Euro is in, prices surge (this recently happened in Latvia too).

So I am very much looking forward to Italy (and others for that matter) leave Euro.

I was in Germany the day the Euro came in, and personally experienced the price surge there. I only encountered one German who favored switching to the euro, but their politicians made the decision for them. The polls have always shown that the German people prefer the Deutschmark, and do to this day.
