  • Info on La Rochelle, St. Lucia?

A friend and I have exchanged for a week, July 2009, at La Rochelle, an RCI property, located at Beach Road, St Lucia, Umhlanga Rocks. We can't seem to find info on the resort or area which seems to be in a conservation area. Is anyone familiar with this property or know anything about the area or can give us tips on sightseeing, driving, etc.? We would appreciate any info.
    Thanks, Mary S

    La Rochelle

First tip is, when looking on the internet do not include Umghlanga in the search. This must just be where there post box is because it is MILES away from St Lucia.
Look on the South Africa tourism website first, but also for info on the area look for 'Dolphin Coast' in SA.
There is absolutely loads to do in and around St Lucia - we are actually booking into La Rochelle later today.
You don't say where you are from, but the main thing in SA is that you have got to have a car. Preferably 4WD if you can afford it, becasue you generally need it for visiting game parks. Hluhluwe is just up the road from St Lucia. We have been there twice and you see loads of animals. Also if you go a bit further to Mkuze you can do tiger fishing if that is your thing.
I am sure you will enjoy it regardless!

      La Rochelle

      look for 'Dolphin Coast'
Sorry, should have said Elephant Coast. Dolphin coast is the area near Durban.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Rochelle, the chalets were clean, cool and well kitted out.
If you decide to do the ferry trip up the estuary try to get onto the boat called 'Fannas'. Derek the skipper made the outing very entertaining, much better than the one we took a couple of years ago.
Cape Vidal have a limit on the number of vehicles allowed in daily, so to avoid disappointment try to be at the gate as early as possible.
