My husband and I just left MountainLoft yesterday. Spring was beginning to arrive and lots of trees were blooming. Unfortunately we were not there long enough to see the rhododendron bloom. I am envious of anyone who is there in the next few weeks. The weather was great, with a range of cold (able to use the gas fireplace) to sunny 70s.
We were in building 4 which overlooks one of the outdoor pools, still covered right now. The clubhouse has a heated pool area, indoor/outdoor, but not warm enough for me yet. Also there is a beautiful hot tub at the clubhouse. We would have liked the hot tub if there was a food/tiki bar, like what we have had at the Fountains. Otherwise we just used the jacuzzi in our town home. We had the 2 bedroom combo unit, which has 2 entrances, so our guests had their own separate apartment, with full kitchen and living room. This was nice when we had spent the whole day together in a cramped vehicle oohing and aching over the beautiful scenery in the mountains.
I had booked online so I did not select my unit. I would have liked to use one of the chalets, but it was spring break, so all were full I guess. Next time I will book online to request a chalet. The staff was very helpful for everything that we needed. We did not choose to sacrifice any time for an ownwer's update, but one of the desk clerks reviewed the unit types with us and I want to pass on the info. All of the buildings are "villas". Buildings 9,10, and 11 are less than 6 years old, while the other buildings are almost 17 years old. All of building 4 and half of building 3 have been renovated, which was a surprise to us. The walls were water stained and the toilets did not flush easily (we reported). Evidently the renovations were to lighting fixtures, some
furniture, appliances. One of our tvs was a flat screen, but the others were all
older model picture tube type.
The "town homes" are built like cabins but have two separate entrances, and you may have neighbor in the other side. The "chalets" have one entrance for use as a separate unit. There are only 14 chalets, but there are
50 town homes.
We enjoyed the location being out of Gatlinburg but close to grocery, restaurants and especially the 8 mile arts and crafts drive on Glades Drive. If you get a chance, eat lunch at the Wild Plum Tea Room. Wonderful food prepared by a talented chef- our daily special was lobster pot pie which was awesome. Be careful though- hours are only 11a-3p, and the daily special is limited. Also had great steak at the Alamo Steakhouse and Saloon.
The Smoky Mountains were magnificent and we want to go back - so many things we did not have time to do. Hope you all can enjoy.
