Old Town Alexandria

We had an awesome time at OTA! I did not realize that they only have 87 units. It was right next to metro station. We also went and checked out the National Harbor. That area is gorgous. I understand that there will be a water taxi that will take residents to Georgetown where they can take the metro to downtown. Wonderful place really calming and peaceful area! I'll post pictures later if I have a chance.

We're returning for another visit to Wyndham Old Town at Alexandria next year. The location is excellent, so close to blue/yellow metro lines and the King Street bus interchange for easy sightseeing treks into Washington DC, Mount Vernon and other areas - not to mention walking right down the street to historic Alexandria! Looking forward to taking that water taxi over to Nat'l Harbor in warm weather. And after seeing the Gaylord Palms hotels in Nashville and Orlando, I'm sure the one at Nat'l Harbor is beautiful too.

Since the Wyndham points are higher at Nat'l Harbor and OTA is right by the metro with free parking, we may still prefer to stay at OTA in the future. But it's great to have more inventory in the region coming on board. It's so disappointing when we decide to go somewhere in high season at 6-8 months and there's no availability. Between Wyndham and Disney adding more units to the DC area, it may become possible for more people to exchange into the area through RCI in the future. The area has been underserved by timeshares so far.

Thanks for posting. I'd enjoy seeing pictures of the area, both Alexandria and/or Nat'l Harbor.

A colleague of mine attended a conference at the Gaylord recently. He said it was fabulous. While the Natl. Harbor location is a little sub-optimal, the overall development sounds really fantastic.

When do you expect National Harbor to be available for exchanges?

Wyndham's website does not list the resort in its online reservation database yet but there's an announcement that says they're accepting points reservations for stays beginning in February 2010 (presumably by phone). Wyndham usually has some inventory deposited with RCI within a couple months of opening a new resort - unless they can fill the place with getaway sales promos. So who knows? Sometime in 2010? Maybe after the busy summer season?
