Sipranillo Carinena Tempranillo 2006 $6.99
Sipranillo Carinena Tempranillo 2006
$6.99 - Free Shipping on 4 or more
At WTSO until the next item comes up.
If you like Spanish Tempranillo, this is a great wine for the price. Not spectacular but I found it to be a quite fine, drinkable wine that pairs up nicely with the right food, or just to sip in the evening.
I bought four bottles the last time this came up. I hadn't been familiar with tempranilo at all previously; now I'm starting to seek it out.
In for two cases this time.

I didn't know the Sipranillo was coming up that often. The last (and only) time I saw the Sipranillo was tow months ago, and that order is long gone.
A week or so ago I bought some of the Sipariņo - that's an albariņo. That one is waiting to ship until the weather cools down.

And it's now sold out and they've moved on to a similarly inexpensive unoaked chardonnay.

Whoops, you're right, I didn't get the temparillo. It was that giant SIP in the logo that distracted me.

After your Sipariņo arrives, be sure to post what you think. I bought the Sipariņo because we just received the winewoot albino rhino, which is a California (Monterey County) albariņo. I had never had albariņo before, and we liked it quite a bit. DW generally prefers whites (is that a female thing) and I like reds, so when I find a white that I enjoy I tend to zero in. The albino rhino hit that target.
So based on the positive albariņo experience from winewoot, combined with my positive experiences with the Sipranillo, I decided to go in on the Sipariņo.
******
I was also intriged by the Bodegas y Vinedos Simonassi Unwooded Chardonnay that replaced the Sipranillo. I tend toward the "anything but chardonnay" crowd, but DW likes chardonnay. But with this one being unoaked - and with a description of "balanced acidity" - I'm hoping this isn't a butter bomb.
I'm reasonably certain that DW will enjoy it even if I don't, and at $7.99 per bottle that's an easy price point. Heck, if it gets hot enough almost any half-decent chardonnay will work as hot afternoon/evening bottle to accompany some salmon on the grill, no matter how buttery and oaked it might be.

I found I had one bottle left of the Sipranillo hidden in the wine overflow storage area in the basement. So I opened it up last night, to refresh my memory.
For $6.99 this is seriously good juice. Very fruit forward. Just a blast of cherry and plum (and I suppose blackcurrant as well if I knew what those were like) when it hits your mouth, and then the fruitiness pretty much covers your whole mouth. Not like some poor wines where the flavors begin dissipating almost immediately.
After that sweet burst, the tannins start to come forward. But the fruitiness maintains at the same time. Then both the tannins and fruit hold for a serious long. Two to three minutes after taking a sip, both are still lingering.
********
I left about one-third of the bottle open to continue to breathe, to see what happens. particularly to see what happens with the tannins.
Hitting it now, about 18 hours later uncorked, there isn't much change at all. So if you're a person who doesn't like any hint of tannin, you might want to give it some serious decanting or aerating.
*****
But for my tastes, this is clearly among the finest under $8 bottles of wine I've ever purchased. This is a slam dunk reorder. Right now I'm kicking myself for only buying two more cases. I should have gone for at least four.
For my tastes the QPR on this one is fantastic.

Well, I ought to amend my comments from above.
I've now had a couple more bottles, and I'm finding that there is lot of variability among bottles. So far are about half as I described above. The others are pretty unremarkable. Pleasant, but certainly not exciting.
All of the bottles I've had improve with some breathing; put it's particularly helpful for the mediocre ones.
