I'm definately interested in legal action so count me in!!!

The legal action should be against the Great Links developer.

well that is my question.. we do make payments on our timeshare, we bought 9000 points...
what can they do to me if I just walk away from this and not pay? so far I have kept paying the monthly fee's for the maintenance and the timeshare payment to resort funding...
I just don't know if I stop paying.. is it resort funding I am shafting?
Can they come after us for not paying the payments? The product I bought no longer exists.. We have not signed the papers that VI sent to us... I don't know what to do.

as i see it, YOUR Homeowners Assn, controlled by the developer who originally sold to you, voted to sell to VI. You haven't said what your payments consist of - for sure they include maintenance fees and payments for purchase if you did that over time. If you walk away, VI may just repossess in some fashion or they may attack your credit.

Well good luck trying to sell your points, I've been trying for over a year...can't give them away. My monthly maintenance fees are automatically withdrawn from my chkg account. They helped themselves to a withdrawl just yesterday 2/5/10. I sent an email to GL to discontinue the withdrawl and so far there has been no response. On Monday I'm going to my bank to see if I can stop them on my end. If there are any lawyers out there I think many of us would love to here from you regarding this whole f'd up situation. What a freakin scam this timeshare was/is!

great links
Thanks for responding
I pay my maintenance monthly and it is to great links and is 38 or so a month.
I also pay my timeshare fee's to Resort Funding who I have many years worth of payments to make at 220 ish or so...
I don't think I'd be as upset about the whole thing , if I could be sure I could trade in interval and put up a low season studio somewhere, and see what I can get for it.. see if I could get a 1 br or 2br somewhere... but it doesn't seem to work that way

Usually the only way to stop an automatic withdrawal is for the taker to voluntarily stop (yeah, they will do that!) or you have to close the account. You cannot unilaterally stop the withdrawals without their approval once you grant it (which is why I'll NEVER authorize an automatic withdrawal again. Not ever). And even then if you stay with the same bank some will automatically transfer the auto withdrawal to the NEW account s check that before you do anything.
Automatic withdrawals is like opening your checkbook to an outsider. NEVER allow it or you may regret it.

Class action?
Sorry, I have been busy with personal stuff, but I still intend to start a website for the Great Links members.
We need to connect and share information.

I got a call from VI
I received a call from a nice lady with VI on Saturday. She was trying to set up a time with me to meet their representative who will explain the VI system. As she was talking with me, she realized that I'm on the East side of the state (WA) and said that they would have to schedule something at a later date. She was very positive and how exciting this is and how much I will enjoy being a part of VI. I then very nicely told her that I don't view this as a positive in any way shape or form. I explained that we bought in mainly to use Desert Canyon, Moses Point, and Great Links at Ocean Shores. All three of these resorts were not part of the merger/take over. I explained that the biggest obstical I had to cross when buying was the maintenance fees. I was afraid of these fees jumping way up over the years. When I bought I was told that these fees could not go up over 5% from one year to the next. I have that in writing in my owners agreement as well. I then asked her how much it costs to buy more VI points. She didn't have an answer for me. She said that she is just a scheduler and that another woman in sales would have that answer. I told her I've left messages for thier sales reps to contact me so I can find out how much VI points cost. She said that GL owners will be given a "special deal" if they choose to purchase more points but that she didn't have the details. I again explained my frustration that I still have 3 more $500 payments on my $8000 purchase for a vacation timeshare that doesn't have the features or locations that were the reasons we purchased in the first place.
Through our conversation, I remained very calm and polite. She was very nice as well. She did say that she has had many upset GL owners she has spoken with while making her scheduling calls.
I haven't sent back the paperwork VI mailed to me yet. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I know that going after the original GL developer won't do any good just as there isn't anything to go after VI for because they just purchased us owners who have been screwed over by GL.
Has anyone else received a scheduling call with VI? If so, how did it go? The call and the meeting.
