Thumbs up Photo's of Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the Sea's Posted

We recently completed a 7 night sailing on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Sea's. At 220,000 gross tons with a capacity for 6,295 passengers, it's the largest cruise ship afloat. It's really more like a floating resort than a cruise ship.

At any rate, I finally finished posting and organizing my Webshots photo Album of the ship. I have in excess of 250 pictures posted and I still didn't manage to get photo's of every restaurant, bar, shop or area of the ship. But I did cover a LOT of ground.

If you interested click the picture below and it should take you directly to the Webshots album for Oasis. If that doesn't work, you can click the link in my signature below and select the Oasis album.

How did you find being in such a large ship was? I have mixed feelings about trying one of the newer mega ships, yet that seems to be what all the newer ships are.

It never seem crowded if that's what you mean. There are so many different areas that the crowds are well dispersed at any given moment.

This ship had more of a resort feel to it than a cruise ship. We wanted to try the inside balcony cabin with the Central Park view but, we won't take that location again. It's not that there was anything wrong with the stateroom or the view but, it didn't feel like a cruise. It felt like a resort vacation. I didn't think not seeing the ocean would be that big of a deal but it turned it was. We like being able to see, hear and smell the ocean. With the inside balcony we couldn't even tell if we were still sailing or if we were docked in port.

The variety of things to do on this ship is truely amazing. One week is not nearly enough to get around to see and do everything. There are still areas of this ship I haven't even laid eyes on yet. We did enjoy the variety of restaurants, bars, activities and entertaimnet this ship offered. It was a great vacation but it certainly was not the typical cruise vacation.

Part of the reason we booked Oasis's sister ship Allure for next January is that it was more of a vacation than just a cruise. The caribbean is generally warmer in January/Febuary than it is in Wichita, KS. We're always looking for someplace warm to go that time of year and sometimes booking a timeshare vacation to a warm destination for that time of year can be difficult. Sort of like booking a Presidents week ski vacation.

Booking a cruise for this time of year is pretty easy and, it's actually less expensive than booking during more popular family holiday times. It's a way to vacation in the sun without having to hope we have enough exchange power to get a S. Florida week or traveling to someplace that might be warmer than home but not really all that hot as far as temperature goes.

Basically, this ship had more of a vacation feel to it than a cruise. Hard to explain I know but, I think of it more as a moving timeshare vacation that includes meals rather than a cruise vacation. Let's face it, St. Thomas, St. Maartin and Nassau have all been done to death by the cruise industry. IMHO there's really no reason to go to those islands on a cruise ship other than going with the idea of the ship or cruise as the destination. If you're going with that thought in mind, it's best to go with whomever provides you the most bang for your buck. This ship provides more bang for the buck than anything else floating around the caribbean sea.

The funny thing is, we were skeptical before we went. We only went because we wanted to see this monster ship and, we wanted to be someplace warm in January. Turns out it was a great vacation and we're going back in 2011.
