A little more than $3million for a 30 second spot.. Not including design and production costs for the commercial itself..

It'll be very interesting to see if the expense ends up being justified...

I'm guessing they'll have a big upfront fee.

This is an advertising only site, they don't tell you what you can get for your rental nor give that advice.

The post was more to point up the fact that this advertising venue was spending big bucks to increase traffic which probably means they already are making big bucks to have the kind of funding to pay for that kind of ad.

Best Value for the Money

  • No commissions or booking fees - keep your rental income!
  • One low annual fee to advertise your home
  • Pay for your listing with only one booking
Reach More Travelers

  • Our site has top rankings with Google, Yahoo! and Bing
  • More than 85 million traveler visits per year
  • International exposure through the HomeAway family of sites
Tools to Help you Succeed

  • Dedicated telephone customer support
  • Expert tips and resources from vacation rental experts and Owner Community
  • Options to increase your exposure to drive even more inquiries

The ads run something like $249 for a year and sometimes they run specials. A lot for a one week timeshare owner but not a lot for someone that owns many or has a fulltime vacation property.

Bringing Back The Griswolds

more info on ad campaign
Quote:
HomeAway, with Chevy Chase as Clark & Beverly D'Angelo as Ellen, is...

Bringing Back The Griswolds,
the most iconic American family, for our 2010 marketing campaign.

The HomeAway ad campaign will recapture the spirit of the 1980s comedy classic, "National Lampoon's Vacation," highlighting the travel mishaps that always follow the Griswold family, while also promoting the value of vacation rentals as an alternative to hotels.

Join HomeAway and the Griswolds in the "Wagon Queen Family Truckster" on our "quest for fun" as the Truckster collides its way through the 2010 HomeAway marketing campaign, starting with the TV ad debut during Super Bowl XLIV.

I was really interested in seeing the placement for this one..

It was a cute ad, but I doubt the average watcher really understood what the company does.. I have to wonder if it will end up drawing many new clients, or will just turn out to be a closing tool to sell ads to prospects already in their database..

30 seconds just isn't much time....

That was the biggest waste of money I have ever seen in this industry. I doubt they even got many people going to their website.

More than $2M down the drain. Ouch.

I was not aware of the company before and after seeing the ad did check out the web site. Maybe not worth the cash just for lil ol me, but maybe a few more noticed it too.
