$117,120 for one week of timeshare!

Holy cow timeshares are getting expensive. At least from the developers direct sales.

Today I received an offer from HGVC to consider purchasing at their new Manhattan timeshare West 57th Street. Preconstruction pricing from the little bit of literature they've sent me indicates that prices for weeks range from $40,680 to $117,120!

Obviously, I'm working in the wrong field. We built our house from the ground up 10 years ago and it was just a little over the top price for one week at this new timeshare. Now granted we live in fly over country where the cost of land isn't nearly as expensive as the water states (states that aren't land locked) but really now, $117,120 is probably higher than the average income for most (maybe any) state in the union. They have got to have a very small target audience that can afford those sort of prices for one week of timeshare. Not to mention that timeshare, when bought from the developer at least, does not hold it's value like regular real estate.

All I can say is WOW. I guess I should have choosen a different course of studies when I decided to go back to college.

or perhaps it is an illustration of the ever widening gap of the "haves" and "have nots" today in america.

Interesting that the have nots are above median middle income families.

I heard on the news this morning that someone had paid $350k at a charity auction for one kiss from george clooney. For $350k he'd have to live with me for 3 months and wear a french maid's outfit.

I bet she could buy 6 of these top end units without blinking.

George Clooney’s lips fetched $350,000 the other night during an auction benefiting AIDS research at the Cannes Film Festival. The debonair do-gooder made an appearance at the annual Cinema Against AIDS dinner with his “Ocean’s Thirteen” co-stars Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia and Ellen Barkin, and found himself up on the auction block courtesy of presenter Sharon Stone. Clooney and his castmates were auctioning off a seven-day Mediterranean getaway on a private boat when Stone announced: “If you bid, one of these guys will come down and touch you. And you can choose which one.” The choice was clear, and with a flourish Clooney planted a big wet one on the lucky girlfriend of the winning bidder!

It must be nice to have to lie awake at night and dream up ways to spend money.

Fairfield/Fairshare Plus Platinum VIP costs $100,000 at Waikiki Beach Walk! That buys you one week in a 4 bedroom presidential every year, which is 1,000,000 points. No timeshare is worth that. We didn't go on the sales presentation there, we just went to look at a unit with a salesperson.

With my track record of buying from developers, I'm scared to death to go on anymore presentations. Especially when the units are getting into the 6 figure range.

Now that I've stopped laughing at doug's post (knowing how true his description fits most of us here!), I want to say that I'm looking forward to trading into one these! What do you think it will take to trade for one of these?

And what would the maintenance fees be? I like to trade to places with higher maintenance fees. If the buy price 117 times what I like to pay, do you think the maintenance fees would be that too?

I don't know about HGVC Manhattan but I have gotten FF Waikiki 2 BDRM for good friends at $300/week.
