The Bright Side of Katrina For NOLA Timeshare Owners
Well, you've always gotta look for the silver lining however you can find it.
As a result of Katrina, and the flooding of the main Post Office in New Orleans, the mail in and out has been fairly spotty. This means that a lot of the resorts are not getting mailed annual fees, or their annual fee statements, mailed out, are not getting to owners.
This situation has sparked all three of my NOLA timeshares (Quarter House, Club La Pension and Hotel de L'eau Vive) to finally get the "owners' sections" of their websites up and running. At last, I can finally pay my annual fees online using my miles credit card.
Not much, but at least it's something.

Another benefit
On the OBX, many resorts got a lot of refurbishment done by insurance money, that saved resorts a bundle on their reserves. Several resorts got all or part of their units completely refurbished with insurance money.

Can you name some of the OBX resorts? Thanks for your help. OBX is a wonderful place to visits except in the summer months. Grandkids love the sand dunes at Wright Memorial.

Dunes South got several of its oceanfront units redone.
Ocean Villas II got its oceanfront building completely redone, which is four fifths of the units at the resort. The HOA has followed that up with complete refurbishment of the back building, and after the work in progress now, will only have one unit left to complete next winter.
Sea Ranch II and Ocean Villas got all of their units redone.
If Bodie Island Beach Club survives as a timeshare, it will have all of is units redone. Their is a hostile takeover effort in progress there.
Golden Strand also had a fair amount of work redone, like all of theiir heating and cooling.

I got my newsletter from the Hotel de L'Eau Vive yesterday. As many know, the annex building burnt down. Apparently, it was the result of thieves who robbed the Subway next door and then set fire to the shop. And the fire spread, due to lack of fire personnel. Insurance claims are in, but there's no news about coverage yet.
In any event, renovations have already begun on the main building, including new paint and recarpeting and flooring of all the first floor units. More is expected. The Annex will be rebuilt.

Question, I know some drug stores chains and hotels are finding that the hurricane insurance has gone sky high. Does anyone knows how it would affect the timeshares...

I'm sure that, if hurricane insurance has gone up for drug stores and hotels, it has gone up for timeshares. That means an increase in operating costs, so we should expect to see our annual m/fs rise next year. The good thing is that the increase can be spread among all owners, so if it goes up by more than, say $30 per unit per owner, I would be quite surprised.
