Here is an updated video of the current French Quarter. You see people but not as many as it used to be.

Hey Frank, what are your dining plans? As I recall Saturday night dinner is at K-Paul's. Do you know what you're having or do you wing it once you see the menu?

What other spots are you reserving in advance?

I'll look forward to your man-on-the-street, first-hand posts upon your return.

I'm curious how the places just outside the Quarter have fared. We were last there in March 2004 and liked several places on Frenchmen Street. I know Jacques-Imo's has a couple of shops in NYC if he hasn't reopened in NOLA yet which could work for you but not for me (yet).

Eat up and eat often and tell us all about it. We'll be there the week after you (so sorry we cannot be there with you this time) and can use all the inside food info you can deliver.

    I listed my plans below
Friday night Café Masepero No reservations needed and close to the resort so its easy for when I arrive.

    Nola lunch Saturday 12:30 Reservations
    Kpauls Dinner 8 Reservations

Mothers Lunch now open Sunday, open from 9 to 9, 7 days a week.

    Emerils 8:30 pm Sunday, Reservations

Johhny Po Boys 504 524 8129 Delivery Breakfast

Monday leaving with a Muffullta to eat on the airport.

If you want reservations for K-Pauls let me know and I can make them for you. If I do it they will treat you like a VIP and will most likely give you a free desert or appetizers.

Here is an update to the area as of Today.
I just returned from another great weekend in NOLA. K-Paul's is open for dinner only at the moment and has a band playing there both inside and outside.

Commandos Palace reopened last week and is pretty much booked up.

Emierils Delmonico Steak house is re opening at the end of the month.
Mothers is open now 7 days a week. I found that there Jambalaya is better than K-Paul's, Emerils, Nola and Café Masepere. It is by far the best I have ever tasted.
Café Du Monde is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
The general grocery store where you get the best Muffallata in town is closed Sundays and Mondays.

Johny Po Boys the food is still great but there delivery was slow and very poor service to boot. We received our half spilled coffee that was cold about over an hour after we ordered. When the delivery person saw the coffee that was in the cups he did apologize and he did not charge us for it.
Bourbon street is still Bourbon street. It is still crowded on the weekends but not as crowded as I have seen it in the past. It did seem better but I think the drinks have gone up in price. On a Sunday night it was not crowded at all.

Katrina hit away from the French Quarter. There was not much that you could see that was damaged in the Quarter from the storm. You did see less people there now from the past and a few places have closed down because there was not enough $ to stay open. Many places have reduced the hours.

    Frank--

Now, aren't you glad that you didn't let your first impression of Mother's keep you from trying it again? I still like their red beans and rice the best of any I've ever tried, though apparently, according to Fern, I tried the wrong location of the Creole Connection, which she says has better red beans & rice. At the location I tried, it was horrible. But I suspect I'll be trying it again at a different location, next time I'm back.

I'm definitely booked into the Quarter House for Halloween of 2007, but I suspect I'll do a three-day weekend there before that.

My wife had walked out of Mothers the last time because it was dirty. I went back with friends the same week and loved it. The Jambalaya is better at mothers than anyplace else we have tried including the higher cost places like K-pauls or Emerials, but the red beans and rice is better at Café Maespero.
I am thinking of booking Easter week of 07 or 08. They say there is stuff going on then.

Just heard from a buddy that the market has been all redone and is nice. Even new bathrooms and full roofs.
