Best places to go to get one bedroom hotels or resorts???

I have a chance to sell my vacation ownership (timeshare) and I was wondering what people usually do when they book their trips? My wife and I are very used to one bedroom rooms now and won't settle for anything else. I have been looking at websites etc. but I am having a hard time finding one bedroom rooms. Can anyone lead me to the right place where I can find these kind of rooms to book?

If that's what you want, keep your timeshare, or rent from others. RCI does plenty of rentals. Also IntervalWorld getaways. Classifieds and rentals here and on TUG, Redweek.

My big issue is that our maintenance fees keep going up all the time. When we get into our older age I can only imagine what they will become. Do you believe that vacation ownership is a better deal than just finding my own deals in the long run?

I hear you. You can always rent. I also like VRBO and HOmeaway, Air B&B.

What have you used and what do you use the most? Are they easy to use? Do you have vacation ownership?

Welcome to the I'm Done With My Timeshare Club.

The difference between you and the tens of thousands of others is that you are actually trying to see if there's something better.

If you are in RCI, there is. If you are not in RCI, and can be, consider joining.

That way, even after you find a way to unload (probably give away) your timeshare(s), you can still get Extra Vacations and Last Calls. Last Calls is excess inventory for the next two months and they are never more than $299. Right now they are discounted to $209. I don't need to say it, but that is a whole lot better than a maintenance fee plus $209.

Extra vacations are further out and about the same price as rentals would be, sometimes a little less.

    Here's Extra Vacations right now:

    USA [45715]
    Carolinas and the Southeast [7701]
    Florida - Orlando Area [4651]

Next Idea . . . use the Internet.

There are many sites . . . craigslist, homeaway, vrbo, or just google want you want, like Orlando Vacation Rentals.

Here, for instance, is Orlando Vacation Rentals on craigslist:

    http://orlando.craigslist.org/search/vac

There's 2761 ads right now. Yeah, it will take some sorting through, but people do cuz that's the way I rent out ours. In many cases, timeshare owners are renting for the amount of their maintenance fee, or less.

Next, contact resorts you want to go to. Many of our favorites from the past 25 years do rentals for their owners. Normally reasonable.

Next, and I have to go look at this one, I have gotten condos for my wife and her girlie friends on Hotwire. One trip was a timeshare and a non-timeshare, added to a week on the beach in a timeshare.

Yup, you can still do it. I checked Hotwire for Orlando for a Saturday to Saturday in December, to duplicate a typical timeshare week, and got:

    1-bedroom suite (10)

    2-bedroom suite (4)

Those are filters under the "Amenities" tab. I clicked on 1-bedroom. There are two lower-end ones for $32 and $33 per night, and they range up to $147 per night. A good gauge is what percentage recommend each one, and in this list that varies from 60% to 80%. Surprisingly, the $32/night one is one of the 80%.

Well, there you go. Just like there were vacations before timesharing, there will be vacations after, only, thanks to the Internet, less expensive.

    Good luck.

Okay, I am just wanting to know what most people are doing now. I have been checking on places we like to stay or would stay. We only take one BR and up and don't want low quality places either. When we use II or RCI which we own at both, I only take upper places. When I have checked I don't know if I find any cheaper than what I can get from RCI or II when I add the MF + RCI exchange fees + average of total paid for TS when purchased. I am just trying to figure out what to do since we have a chance to sell it and get $7000 for it with no fees at all. AAAAHHHHHH the agony of making decisions.

Well, being as this is a timeshare forum, most people here are likely timesharing.

    Here's another Hotwire:

    Hot Rate Condo

I would have no agony with that decision.
