Actually this was at least the second snow. We had a cold spell a couple of weeks earlier and they got a nice snow on Mt LeConte. I saw the pictures.

According to my middle daughter (whose one and only bout of motion sickness was on that road), taking Wears Valley Road to the E. Lamar Alexander Parkway entrance in Townsend instead of the road in the park from the Gatlinburg entrance helps a lot, although of course then you miss the falls on Little River.

Wears Valley isn't exactly a straight road either.

Early Winter Snow in the Great Smoky Mountains

November 2011 - Clingmans Dome - Because of Snow and Ice

Clingmans Dome Road has been closed for the season two days early.
Clingmans Dome Road will not reopen to vehicles until April 1, 2012.

At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is Great Smoky Mountains National Park's highest point.
It is the highest point in Tennessee, and the second highest point east of the Mississippi.
Only North Carolina's Mt. Mitchell (6,684 feet) rises higher.

Clingmans Dome is a popular Park destination. Located along the state-line ridge, it is half in
North Carolina and half in Tennessee. The peak is accessible after driving Clingmans Dome Rd
from Newfound Gap, and then walking a steep half-mile trail. A paved trail leads to a 54-foot observation tower. The route will stay open to hikers, snowshoers, and skiers. People can
hike and cross-country ski on the road during the winter.

The Appalachian Trail crosses Clingmans Dome...
marking the highest point along its 2,144 mile journey.

    Gatlingburg

I just joined the forum yesterday. We have our TS at Mountain Loft, and have enjoyed well over 20 trips up there. We have made most all of the hikes, and can advise the best time of year for each. Also can give recommendations of a few places to find a good beverage or two. We love this place.

We've had a very tragic death in our family and our family is wanting to shake it up and do something completely different for Christmas this year. We are looking for a 3 bedroom at Westgate in Gatlinburg as we are owners there, but only own one week and have already used it. If you have anything, please message me. Thank You.

    Double sympathies from me.

    Maybe triple.

    Maybe more.
