As a general rule I would agree. But this (click for CT link) isn't your grandmother's rosé.

We're not rose fans--what's different about this one? What do you like it with, or do you like sipping it before dinner? I'm always willing to learn.

So the Rosé arrived today, and I opened a bottle this evening without even giving it a chance to acclimate. It's slightly chilled - probably 55° - 60° F.

So how is this not your grandmother's rosé, you ask.

It's almost exactly as I was confident it would be. A light salmon color - not pink. Very good nose - strawberries, citrus, and some floral in the background (rose? lilac?). In the mouth the flavors come through immediately and then sustain and evolve for a quite a awhile. The floral notes are muted in the palate, but some melony tastes come out. There's just a touch of effervescence. A bit of tannin comes through after a minute or two. Appears to me to be almost bone dry; there's a bit of apparent sweetness but that comes from the fruit notes, not from any residual sugar. There's a bit of acidity and a trace of heat, but all very well balanced. I'm sitting here about five minutes after having had a sip and I can still taste bright flavors, and feel a bit of the tannin and acidity. It has not gone the least bit flat or lost any zip.

This is very easy to quaff on it's own sitting on the deck, and it should also be stupid-good with seafood where the acidity and citrus notes can shine. I would not drink this chilled below 50° F; if you do a lot of the complexity will be lost.

I am glad I got a case of this stuff. Seems to me that it's got enough presence to hold up for about a year.

Sweet and insipid this is not. This is dry, robust and complex. At the $10.99/bottle WTSO price it's a great buy.

Inundation week. I've got 6 shipments arriving this week, with four scheduled for tomorrow. Fortunately I'm home during the day so I can hide them away before DW sees them. If I slowly bring them out of storage over the next several months she'll never know.

I have been enjoying the Provencal roses for a couple of years, definitely not sweet, and almost always a good bet. $10.99 for a nice bottle is a good deal, though; I will keep my eyes open for it again.

I bought six initially, just because I thought it looked like a good bet at the price. But I put it on hold until the end of the summer. Then over at CT a number of reviews came in, and people were gushing about it. So when it showed a second time at WTSO I jumped in on another six.

This is great stuff. I've spent years staying away from rosés because of the insipidness of most of the stuff that comes off the shelf. Someone made a comment one time that made me think I had been too dismissive; that was what led me to consider this the first time. One sip and I knew the problem wasn't rosé; it was that I hadn't had a good rosé. Had a similar experience one time with pinot gris, where I realized that the reason I didn't much care for gris was because I hadn't even had a good bottle of gris.

I got lucky last week. I ordered 2 Brunellos's they put up last month and just got them. I ordered 2 xDomus Vitae Brunello di Montalcino DOC2006 91 Score JS! What I got was 2 xDomus Vitae Montalcino DOC2006!
Bottles looked the same but was not the same I did not get The Brunello type I got the standard Domus Montalcino. I called them and they said keep the wrong ones which go for about $16 plus shipping each. I am happy that they will send out the right ones today. Looking at the 2 bottles they do look like close to the same wine.

My second shipment of bottles of the Tourbillon rosé arrived about 30 minutes ago. I told the driver I would see him again tomorrow, and he thanked me for the alert.
