I am a new UDI owner and was just wondering if it is possible to do a trade within the BG system or if I must go through an exchange company?

AFAIK you would either have to use an exchange company like II, RCI, etc or a direct exchange. The UDI's are not a part of the points system and therefore do not allow you to trade for other BG resorts.
You are correct if it is a "Pure UDI" but if it is a "Blended UDI" it would have BG Points attached to it and then you would be able to trade within the BG system.
But you most likely get less reservations with a "Blended UDI" and have the added cost of the $129 BG yearly Point Club Dues and at least 1 Housekeeping fee per a Blended" UDI ownership but you do not pay any additional maintenance fees for those attached BG Points"
Besides our 6 "Pure Oak Timbers UDI's" we also have two "Blended Oak Timbers UDI's" each with attached 9,000 yearly BG Points and one "Blended Cottage UDI with 12,000 attached yearly points giving us 30,00 0 yearly BG Points. But we pay a extra $195 for 3 yearly housekeeping fees and $129 for the yearly BG Point Club Dues for those 3 "Blended UDI's".
From what I have found out it seems the conversation cost to attach BG yearly points SEEM to have cost anywhere from about $3,000 to $5,000.

I am really tired of having to argue with the RCI guide every time I deposit a UDI week, they say you have already deposited so many weeks, you can't possibly have any more.
