Exclamation Royal Elite / Sandos Resort in Cancun

    WARNING-WARNING-WARNING-WARNING-WARNING-WARNING-WARNING-WARNING

My wife and I were on a vacation in Cancun last year and were invited to a timeshare presentation at Royal Elite, they offered us that if we buy a timeshare with them we would be able to rent our weeks and could make a profit for that, they argued that would be very easy for them to rent our weeks due that lots of people like to go to Cancun, unfortunately we were convinced to buy and we were excited to be there, so we went back to our vacation and during the next days we gave a second thought and decided to cancel the purchase, so we called the resort to inform our decision and they just spoke in Spanish..??.. we told them that yesterday we were speaking in English and now they don´t understand a word..??..
We had to fly back home and once we´ve just arrived we researched more of this company, WHAT A SURPRISE!! We found that lots of people have been scammed by these persons; we continued trying to cancel the membership by email and have been in contact with Jose Cruz Lara “customer service” and he informed that the resort would accept to cancel but the down payment, and the monthly fees we paid including the maintenance fees, will be retained for the resort as damages, we discussed that with him and finally had to accept, otherwise they will send our account to collections; when we informed Mr. Cruz Lara our decision of accepting the cancellation with no refund, he told us that they had sent our file to a collection agency, we were in shock! Because we were dealing a cancellation and the membership was paid up to date and they are pretending to affect our credit records, CROOKS!
Than we had to find out in the Internet and found the name of the “Customer Service Manager” Erick Ferrari (incompetent puppet), and we sent him a message to see if he could help us to resolve this inconvenient, he replayed our message telling us that if we want to cancel the membership we have to pay it in full and then request the cancellation and the resort will accept it with no refund…!!??!! Again we were in shock because in my country that´s EXTORTION, he is asking is more money in order to cancel something that is our right to do, it is stated at the clauses of the contract that if we want to cancel we the resort will retain the monies paid up to date, but never mentions that we have to pay in full to get it cancelled, come on! After we received his response we told him that we will inform everyone in the world of their practices and his response was that he informed to the financial and legal departments.
We are still trying to deal with this Mr. Ferrari and we are not going to rest until we get our money back from this bunch of liar crooks.
Before you go Cancun think it twice and DO NOT GO TO ROYAL ELITE at SANDOS RESORT they will scam you too.
    To be continued……

Contact the Mexican consumer protection agency---PROFECO. Don't fall for any get your money back schemes by other Mexican agencies or "legal: companies. It appears they named this resort to make it sound more like the Cancun Royals (Royal Sands) who are probably one of the few respectable developers in Mexico. The get your money back and more from rentals is one of the more common scams being used in the past few years.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. My wife and i went through a similar situation two years ago in Cabo. Fortunately we found a great article that helped us out: (link removed as poster is a suspected shill) I hope it can be useful for you as well. Good luck!!

Be careful of outfits that new posters claim can get you out of your timeshare. I have yet to see evidence that any of them were successful in doing anything but taking more money from the unhappy timeshare owner.

Nicholay, I am wondering how you decided to proceed in your attempt to rescind the Royal Elite membership. Did you go with the PROFECO suggestion?

    Hi Nicholay

It's a shame how Royal Elite took advantage of you and your wife. Unfortunately stories like yours happen all the time and many people are getting scammed every day. Legally you should’ve sent a cancellation letter to the company in a 5 days period since the moment you signed the membership. If you sent that letter, but you didn’t get any response from the company it’s possible for you to get your money back just by having the prove that you did send the letter. On the other hand, if you just tried to cancel the timeshare contract by phone calls and emails instead of sending the cancellation letter, you can still cancel the membership. You might not get a total refund, but you won’t have to pay any maintenance fees anymore, and your credit history will not be affected. If you have any more doubts or questions you are free to contact me, I’ll be more than happy to help.

    Sincerely,

    Barbara Fletcher

Be careful about help posts by new members. If any outfit asks for money upfront they are scam artists almost all of the time. Mexican Timeshare Solutions arrived here this week and have already tried to get some free advertising here. Should I find they are dishonest, I will post that information.
