I have been to NV twice and ACA once - had an exchange to Riv Maya but missed it do to family illness.
Friends who have been to all three of these liked NV the best - surrounding area, restaurants and resort property the best.
Looking forward to trying Cabo in 2012

"Best" really depends on personal preferences. We have stayed in Nuevo Vallarta and at Marina Vallarta. DW has also visited Riviera Maya.
Of those three I suspect most folks would rate Marina Vallarta the least desirable, but Marina was actually our favorite. That reflects our interests in being closer to town so we can get out and around. Physically, Marina Vallarta is the oldest and is a Mayan Palace (not Grand Mayan).
But we really enjoyed the ease of getting into town from Marina Vallarta. Nuevo was just a bit too isolated for our tastes. My wife had similar feelings about Riviera Maya.
If you're going to spend most of your time at the resort, then the distance from town won't matter that much. But if you use your resort more as a base for getting out and around (as we do) then the closer location is more attractive.

I've been to Mazatlan ( not Grand), kind of far out, nice though and has Regancy units which is what we actually own. I have also been many times to NV....I like it a lot there but I do find it a tad large, the grounds....and almost a tad sterile, but we do like it.....and it is an awesome property. If you hook up with friends there I think it is even better.
Acapulco is up next and wow I did not even realize there was one in Cabo, I want to go there, so am adding that to my list....never ending...LOL.
Maya Riviera will save for awhile as also owner at Palace Resorts so if I go to that side...I have places with Palace resorts I want to see.....
In my opinion any of the Mayans seem very nice........just matters where you want to go and what you want to do......if we go to NV or PV, well been so many times, we spend a lot of time at resort, so Mayan has it all ............

THANKS to SFX, we will be going to both NV (10/17-10/24) and Riviera Maya (10/24-10/30)!!!!!!!!!!! SO EXCITED, this will be our first Grand Mayan experience!
Based on what you guys have said, it seems like the Riviera Maya GM resort is connected with or shares the grounds with the Royal Mayan. Is it the same in NV - do they share grounds there? We like large resorts, but I hope our room is close enough to the pools and restaurants...
We like to go into town 1 or 2 nights for dinner but the rest of the time we like to go to dinner at the resort so that we can walk back to the room - are there a few restaurants to choose from? John, you had said there were more options at the Riviera Maya...
Also, what should we do in town or in the area?? I heard there were boat cruises for dinner in PV - is this any good?
Do you use the free shuttle to the resort? Is it easy to spot the driver at the airport?
Thanks

They Mayan Palace and the Grand Mayan share many of the same resort amenities, not the Royal Mayan, This is the same in both NV and Rivera Maya.

There were 6 various restaurants @ the Rivera Maya resort, in NV I think it is 5. We liked the on-site eateries, I have heard many complain that they are expensive, but we feel that they are fairly priced .

You should run a search for this type of info.

You need to contact the resorts for this info.

I love my Astro Van, I can pack everyone and everything in it for vacation no matter what month it is.

The Nuevo Vallarta location has a distinct separation between the Grand Mayan, Mayan Palace, and Sea Garden though they are all on the same property. At the Riviera Maya location there are separate buildings but not a real separation like at NV.
At NV we took the dinner cruise to an island where they had a buffet dinner and evening show. It was OK but wouldn't do it again. We feel that there are much better attractions at the Riviera Maya. At the Riviera Maya. an absolute must do is the tour of Xcaret. It is awesome. We have also done tours of Xel-Ha, Chichen Itza, Tulum and have visited Cozumel.
We always take the resort's shuttle at the Riviera Maya. You have to e-mail the concierge at the Grand Mayan with your reservation number, names, flight info. They will e-mail you back a confirmation. They are located just out the door at the terminal. Just walk out the door and they will be right in front of you across the road. They will have the resort's logo. Beware that you will be bombarded by people as you walk through the terminal after you clear customs. Just ignore them as they are timeshare sharks trying to sign you up for a presentation by offering transportation. There is no obligation of any kind to use the Grand Mayan's free shuttle.

Grand Mayan or General Motors! I believe the thread is about the Mayan Palace locations or best resort. Quite funny but both good answers.
