Shuttle Launch
We're just back from watching the shuttle launch--pretty exciting stuff! Obviously, I've seen it on t.v. lots of times, but being there was something else again: watching it become daylight at liftoff, seeing it go into the clouds, go out of the clouds, and finally become a star was heady. I was really amazed at how long it took for the sound to reach us, and when it did, we felt it, not just heard it.
I'm really, really glad we went.

Where were you to see the launch? Were there many people there? We tried to see it once and it got scrubbed shortly before lift-off time. Traffic was so terrible that the only way we'd go back was if staying nearby.

My dd and two friends drove from St. Petersburg to see the launch. Unfortunately, since it was scrubbed they didn't see it. I'm hoping there will be another one planned over a weekend so they can see one. Dd did see a launch in 2001 when we went over Spring Break and were lucky enough to get passes to view it from the causeway. Truly spectacular.

I live 30 miles from the cape and 3 houses from the beach. I usually walk with my dog and watch it from the beach. TOO cold and TOO late last night, so watched it from the yard wrapped in blankets!! I have seen many, and they never cease to thrill...

We did rent a room so we could sleep until just before launch and so we would have a room to return to until the traffic cleared. We found a crummy old hotel (but it was clean and had good beds) that was only two very short blocks from the water. We had an absolutely un-obstructed view, about 30 people were gathered there. We were a few blocks from Space Center Park. I'd do it again in a heart beat. The next 4 are all daylight, and the next one is March 18th.
