I just booked into the Marriotts Shadow Ridge thru II for first week in October...
(Unfortuately, I found out after booking that the resorts golf couse is closed for overseeding the entire month of October... )

With my son living in LA for next couple of years, this may be a good Marriott to look for on resale market. Does anyone know if they have 2 br eoy units there??? I imagine that 'winter' months are platinum in Palm Springs area....

Thanks again,
Paul

Thanks for answering my questions.

The 120.00 I figured out...95.00 ROFR and 25.00 transfer.

Let's just say I will probably be taking your advice on where and what to buy

I'd also consider Shadow Ridge but it would be Gold Season...I thought perhaps a T-giving week would trade well?? I don't know. I am stuck between buy where you can travel...Shadow Ridge is less than 2 hours from me and my Mother lives out there OR buy Plat Branson and just trade. At first I thought why bother when you don't know how often you would be able to fly somewhere...given the state of the airlines...but, as I heard myself say while I convincing DH-I have 5 Marriotts here in my own state...I can drive to....not bad.

I just need to wait for the right deal.

Paul,

Yes-Shadow Ridge has EOY's and Yes, Winter is Plat. Gold is ...wait, let me go look.....

Plat is weeks 1-21, 50,51 Gold is weeks 22-27, 36-49 which is 2nd week Dec.

If the SR course is closed, you will be able to play at Desert Springs - Marriott WANTS your money

I actually think that the October/November Palm Springs weeks will trade well....

I have often wondered that...if the M to M would make a difference because I want to trade to Marriott weeks I can't see and this is what I see today for Shadow Ridge....I just started it in Oct and went through May. I see Plat weeks including Christmas and I don't own a Marriott. Should this be an indicator of trade power for Shadow Ridge? Meaning, these weeks are "out" and not in demand. If this is the case then would a deposit of these weeks which are apparently not in demand be strong enough to pull what (Marriott) I want in season...given the usual supply and demand and early deposit of course. Am I making sense? I know they would pull during Flex regardless and I would have the preference....which is what I am after-but for long term requests is what I'm asking. Is a Plat Branson going to trump a Gold Shadow Ridge...assuming say a T-giving SR week vs July 4th Branson week. Any thoughts?

Plat Branson will out trade Gold Shadow Ridge - do u belong to II?
If so, you can see the travel demand index online.
While this is only indicitive of the area (not Branson versus Palm Springs) you can see how fall Palm Springs is in comparison to winter Palm Springs.

Shadow Ride is a VERY nice property, I have stayed there - but if i went back, i would stay at Desert Springs or Westin Mission Hills - because I REALLY like having the hotel linked with the TS.
Search that same period for those 2/3 resorts and see if there is as much availability during February/March prime time. I don't think so.

Ok...so Feb/March is more Plat or Plattier in PD than Dec/Jan BUT I don't think I can afford Plat Palm Desert..that's why I was looking at Gold...I just like SR-but you make a good point about the hotel connection. Now a Plat Branson is more in my ball park and for whatever reason week 22 is the most demanded. That is my favorite week to travel-but what happens in Branson that makes week 22 the most demanded? Hmmmm. That week is more in demand than T- giving week in Palm Desert. Even though summer in Branson is not that high on the demand scale-it's higher than Gold season in PD.

Thanks Pat...this discussion is helping me a lot.

Here is what I see right now for WMH...I don't own a Starwood and I don't always see the 2bds....but this isn't bad really.
The other 2 Marriotts...not so much for Feb/Mar...lot's of studios.

The travel demand index don't 'cross over' so even though it might say that summer Branson is 135 versus January that is 85 is ONLY relevant to Branson - not OTHER locations.
It just shows demand in Branson NOT how Branson relates to Palm Springs, get it?

If u looked at Hawaii, it ONLY compares Hawaii in October to Hawaii in July - demand wise, not Hawaii in October to Maine in October.

In Marriott, Platinum will USUALLY out trade a Gold week.
I say USUALLY because Aruba Gold trades extremely well even against other Plat Mar weeks and some resorts have LARGE Plat seasons that aren't really Plat time - such as Newport Coast which runs from mid June thru December. Gold weeks in late May/early June will trade better then Plat weeks in early December/mid November and Fairway Villas Plat season is from early April to early November. June-late August trade GREAT but the first week of November is not prime time in the northeast.

Yes, but what I trying to say was if I was holding both weeks in my hand, a Gold SR and a Plat Branson, and I was looking at the index, trying to decide which week to deposit to get the most power-Wouldn't I want to deposit the Branson week on it's highest demanded week because it rated higher on the index for Branson then the Gold Palm Desert week would rate on it's highest week in it's own index?

In other words,

The B week is a 135 on it's highest demanded week of the season(Plat)

The PD week is 110 on it's highest demaned week of the season(Gold)

I'd get more power out of the B week at 135.

I'm not comparing same weeks-I am comparing what is the highest possible week to deposit within each season.

I do understand some red/plat weeks are redder than others which is why I'd try to deposit the reddest I could within the season.
