Hi All:
I'm new at this Timeshare thing and just bought a Marriott Desert springs villas I unit on ebay. Its a fixed week 48(white season). I wasn't planning on making the plunge into ownership so soon but it seem like a good price(under 7K).

Just looking to see what kind of trade power it has with II from other owners who may have a similar week.

We used to own a DSV floating week and it had good trading power with II. I didn't know they had fixed weeks at the MDSV-I. Are you sure it is fixed? It may mention a week on your deed but that doesn't mean that is is fixed. I hope you will get a better answer than mine.

Drew, welcome to TS4M's, and the Marriott family, as well.

iconnections is correct. Check to see if your week is in fact a fixed week. Marriott does not have many fixed weeks in their system. I'm not familiar with what this particular resort is offering, but I'd double check.

Most of Marriott's weeks are floating, tho some are fixed. In the floating system, you need to call one year out, on the first day of the week you'd like to reserve, to have a better chance of obtaining it. Call, and try to book online, simultaneously, at 9 AM, the minute Marriott opens. This may sound extreme, but it's your best chance of getting the week that you want.

In your season, I would think that T'Giving would be the week that you're looking for. Also, Halloween week in Palm Springs is a wild week, and might have good trading power, as well, if that week is available to you.

To exchange your week for another, you first need to secure a week at your timeshare, and then deposit it into II. You can then place a request for an exchange.

Almost all Marriott ownership is 'floating' - there are exceptions - but I believe yours is a float as well. All new Marriott Resorts are on a Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze floating calendar with a few fixed weeks that are called Platinum Plus.
Your resort has Red (Platinum), White (Gold) and Blue (silver)

So you can reserve your ownership during white time - weeks 22-27, 36-49.

Probably the time that would trade the best would be weeks 40-46/47 (if 47 is Thanksgiving) week 22 if it includes Memorial Day, week 26 if it includes July 4th. You do have even more 'holiday weeks - many people have off Columbus Day and Veterans day, too - and generally weeks that have a holiday in them are more in demand as it requires only 4 vacation days.

A good thing to do once you have your Interval International account is to call them and ask what weeks at your resort qualify for a "accommodation certificate" - a bonus week - for the past 3 years.
If any of YOUR time falls within the guidelines, you know those are weeks of high demand as II rewards u with a bonus when u deposit.

I guess you already know that this is a lock-off unit - splitting into a 1BR and a studio - and u can reserve each part a seperate date....

Thanks for all the good info everyone. Pat- Yes that is the auction I won. Just asked the seller and she said it does in fact float during white season.
I'm thinking of reserving in Oct. 2009 week 41(columbus day) In thinking about Angelas advice,If wanted to reserve the saturday-saturday when is the earliest I could call marriott to reseve? Would it be 12 months from the saturday or twelve months from the Thursday before when the week technically starts st DSV1?

12 months before the FIRST check in day for that resort... so if they have a Fri-Sat-Sun then 12 months before would usually (not leap year!) fall on the Thursday at 9 am eastern time.

But if u r thinking of depositing - call II and ask about the AC as I mentioned above - that is a TRUE indication of demand, because II doesn't give them out for les in demand weeks.

If you are reserving this week to exchange, II rates weeks 44, 46 & 47 higher than week 41. Week 47 is the highest rated demand week for your season. I'm guessing that it's Thanksgiving week.

Many people say that White season at DSV would resell for about $8.5K-$11K so your winning bid was a very good deal.
