Marriot Points system
Hi,
Don't own a Marriot yet. I am still looking and learning. I do own a Wyndham and it works on points. I see some posts talking of points for Marriot. Have they converted to the points system and if so, does it work the same as Wyndham does?

Marriott doesn't have a point system (yet?)
So when you see people talking about Marriott points they talking about trading in their Marriott TS ( after paying the MF of about $1000 and a turn in fee of about $100) and getting somewhere around 100K Marriott hotel points. You could have bought the hotel points direct from Marriott for 50K pts /$625 /year.
There is also some significant rumors that Marriott will sometime this year roll out a new point based TS program. No one knows what it will be like or if you'd want to be a member of it.
So if you want to buy a Marriott TS (like I did last year) do not do it for the hotel points (which you do not get if you buy resale) or for the new point based TS program (which isn't available yet or maybe ever).

It's been a consistant rumor for the last couple of years that Marriott would be releasing a points based reservation system. They do actually have such a system with their Asian based product and that does include a portion of the sales at Grand Chateau in Las Vegas. However there is no such system for North America or Europe. Salesmen seem to be the main proponent of this rumor in order to convince those who are thinking about buying resale that it's not a good idea ie: resale buyers won't be allowed into any new system. Therefore I'd put very little belief that there will ever be such a system for Marriott owners in North America or Europe.

Good advice given in both the above posts.
I feel at this time marriott will NOT go to a point system (similar to Wyndham) because they don't want to alienate their owner base.
When we purchased our ownerships, we were told we could exchange our platinum week in Hilton head for a platinum week in Hawaii - and you can thru the exchange company Interval International.
With a system as Wyndham, as they add new resorts, it takes more points to reserve a 2BR unit.
Yes, I know that at your home resort, you can always get a 2BR unit in arkansas for 154K(so far this does not change) but to get a 2BR in Hawaii, you need 375K or even 500K. By increasing the points needed to get in to the new resorts, they force u to buy more points just to keep up.
With Marriott, your 2BR Platinum in NJ that you purchased 10 years ago can exchange into the newest Marriott resort in FL or AZ - the value of the older resorts is not diminished by making the newer resorts 'more valuable' - a week is a week is a week.
Like Wyndham, it is all about availability - if there is no availability at the resort u want to exchange into/reserve at with your points - u r not getting in.

Agreed......I hope that if Marriott does in fact go to a point system in the future, they will take their promises to heart.
