RCI Weeks vrs Points
Can you please help me understand RCI better?
Generally, when I have searched using traditional RCI weeks I rarely find exactly what I want but moments later I can if I sign into RCI Points then search for RCI weeks (to pay with points).
Therefore, I started to deposit as many RCI weeks that could convert to RCI points as possible.
I can't understand why the amount of points vary so widely at a RCI Points resort. I was told variations can occur for week number, check in day etc. Akeld in England has daily check in, and if you check in mid-week it costs less points even when it is still a 7 day reservation.
One of my RCI weeks is Week 52 Holiday Inn Mazatlan (which goes by other names like Mardesol or Sunspree). It only converts to 14,500 RCI points because it is a Standard Resort Studio. It seems to show good results in traditional RCI weeks.
We just booked 2 weeks for a studio at Club Bali Hai Moorea (RCI #0782). When the RCI VG called because of the request, she quoted 14,500 points & and said something like 'standard resort.' I booked the 2nd week online and it showed 15K points.
I am unsure if I should deposit more RCI Weeks that don't convert to points hoping they will yield some good exchanges and I can avoid the $26 fee to convert to points.
I was thinking since $26 Points for deposit fee with the lower exchange fee of $124 for a Points week was lower than the $199 exchange fee it was a good deal.
But if I want to reserve more than 330 days in advance, I need to convert to points + pay $199 per reservation.

Some answers

That doesn't make sense if it is the exact same unit. However, if the units are different, it could happen. I have seen varying points required for the same sized unit plenty of times. It could be a higher floor with a better view or a slightly larger floorplan, who knows.

The size of the unit dictates the small number of points on the points side. The holiday travel week dictates the high trade power on the weeks side.

You can deposit in weeks, test the trade power and if if not satisfied, convert to points.

Some additional comments

The difference in what you see is due to the trade power difference between your banked week and the trading power attributed to points. Sounds like your banked weeks have low trading power, hence not seeing as much as points.

Every week/group of weeks are assigned various point values based on however RCI assesses demand (factors include holidays, day of the week, sq. ft of unit size, etc)

If it shows good trading results as a banked week, don't PFD it.

So, can you find out what a week will be worth before you convert it to points?

The generic points chart is available on the RCI website.

Remember that this chart only applies to non-RCI points resorts.
