HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!

PS I also had perfect vision till my 50th (2 years ago). What a bummer it is to always need to have a pair of glasses handy. Going out to reastaurants are the worst. You're going out to have a nice time but need to bring your glasses so you can read a menu.

Right now, I can still read most menus without glasses, but it's small print in dim light that gets me, and menus can be a problem. I noticed it a few weeks ago for the first time while in a London Tube station when trying to read the station names on a tiny pocket map of the London Underground.

My friends are taking me out to The Hobbit for dinner tonight. Luckily, there will be no menu to read.

Hoc,
You're just a baby. If you don't want to carry eye glasses for menus, maps, etc., go to a bookstore and get one of those credit card sized magnifying cards, and carry it in your wallet. They are very inexpensive and will generally do the trick. I notice that I only need reading glasses in instances where there is very low contrast.

I see you collect unusual restaurants. Have you ever been to Forbes Island in the San Francisco Bay? I took Jerry and a party of six others there for his 60th birthday some years back. Its very interesting...

No, but I've seen it many times when I go to taunt the Sea Lions. I always thought it looked interesting. But it's hard for me to get beyond my favorites when I go, and it leaves little time for new restaurants.

Little Joe's, Scoma's, Grubstake II, Citizen Cake, etc. . . .

Maybe I'll try it next time I'm up there. And I'll definitely get the card. My friend said that his mother developed that problem, and then it reversed itself when she turned 60. Unfortunately, I read constantly for work, so it's a definite issue for me. I got reading glasses the other day, and upon putting them on, was amazed to find that it was not the dim light that was preventing me from reading.
