Smile It's Over....goodbye Wilma...

I posted this on TUG too.....and if anyone wants a longer account of "our" experience through Wilma...just email me...it's what I sent out to relatives and 'other' friends....

Finally...POWER and being able to get back on my 'puter. Thanks for asking Icarus...we are fine. I've been wondering how other south Floridians are doing after Wilma. I hope they check in too...but they may still be without power. South of us got hit much harder. I have heard Naples is/was closed, Everglades City is devastated.

We were without power from 5:10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (what a welcome wake up call that was!). No house damage at all. Some bent or broken plants. House next door lost it's huge pool cage..it is flattened..and she will be here from Germany tomorrow. Neighborhood is OK, except for lost shingles on the older homes...some down to the plywood. Our 2 South Ft. Myers kids were here with us and they went home yesterday afternoon and saw some damage going back. Peg's house is OK except for a few tiles off her roof.

Pat stayed on Big Pine with friends in a stilt house...water got way up under the house and US 1 was closed in sections. She talked to neighbors/friends in Key West and Key West is in BAD shape. Read what I got off the Key West on line edition this a.m.

http://www.keysnews.com/hurricaneed..._KWflooding.htm

Pat lives in New Town now (she used to be in Old Town, up the street from Turtle Krawls) and she knows there was a lot of flooding. Now for her to get back to Key West and to her rental house to see how bad it is. But she is OK!!!

If anyone hears from the others on our coast or the East coast...please post!! I'm thinking of *The Conch Man*, CAT, Don from Punta Gorda..Hope you are all OK!!! I imagine *Rapmarks* is concerned about their house in Estero, so hope she posts when she hears.

I imagine they're glad they did. We're having our first cold weather snap so some will be heading back this weekend.
Kat, I suggest you check out the Ft. Myers News Press @ www.news-press.com They had almost the whole front section dedicated to Wilma and how it affected the various cities & towns around our area in Lee & Collier county.

Frank, Orlando should have come out of this pretty well...but not sure about where Scott lives. Check out the map on www.news-press.com...they had a whole section on where Wilma hit.

I know it's not over for you...but for us the days of waiting and wondering just when and where Wilma was going to hit ARE over. I just heard from a friend in St. John's New Brunswick Canada and they are expecting heavy rain and winds from Wilma too.

Report from Key West

Just talked to our daughter, Pat in Key West. She got down there this morning....4 (FOUR) feet of water in her house, basically she has lost most of everything and can not get in touch with the Realtor/property manager She has several offers to stay at friends homes, or she can stay on the boat at the dock if she wants (she works for a research outfit out of Key West)

She said Key West is a mess and Fantasy Fest has been canceled, although some of the locals want to have an impromptu parade Saturday. Her friend suggested that Pat and she take Pat's 4 wheeled bike (I don't know the official name for it) decorate it with scraps of material and the two of them dress up in blonde wigs, ala Wilma, and peddle as "Blown Out Wilma" in the parade! Anyone want to volunteer to be Barney??? We got cut off by a power outage (back on now) but will talk to her later and get more reports.

JoAnn sorry to hear about your daughter. The only damage I had was that I lost my Cable internet for 2 hours last night. There are a few large trees from the areathat came down. A few of my friends had roof damage and water in there basements but that is nothing compaired to what went on down south.

Whew, glad you are ok. And knowing you, if Pat has half your spirit she'll do just fine. She's probably chalking it up as an exciting adventure. Some adventure , huh? This weather we have had this year is really something. BTW, I can't get on tug. shaggy
