The Galleon resort and room conditions

I got a September 27th check in for my son at the Galleon Resort in unit B33. So far I know it overlooks the pool and might have a slight view of the ocean. I have been to the Galleon once but it has been a few years ago and I can’t remember much about room locations.

I am looking for info on the room conditions, room noise, or room views. Some of the recent reviews I have read have comments about the outdated furnishings (no problem with that) and dirty carpets at the resort. I also think I have read that building C is the building you don’t want to be assigned to.

I know it is in a great location!!!

I welcome any comments.

Mike, I have a site map, I'll scan it and email it to you. In 2006, our room was in great shape. We were in A54.

Although The Galleon is an older facility, the only legitimate unit complaint is the studio portion of the lockoffs.

For us, too, it was a couple of Januarys ago, but everything in our unit was absolutely spotless and brand new.

You are correct about a limited ocean view. We would prefer marina-side, cuz there's so much interesting stuff going on there.

Our last stay at the Galleon was in 2002. We would stay in any unit except a studio. Everthing looked to be clean and up to date during our stay. We enjoyed it. Our unit was on the 2nd floor and a corner. We had spiral stairs going from our unit to the deck. We had a pool view from the bedroom side and a ocean view from the back. The view was better from our unit than it is at Mallory Square.

How do you know the unit assignment? I am looking at our exchnage confirmation for Sept. 20th and I don't see it..??

I did just received a letter from RCI saying the the Galleon is going to have a retiling project going on though Dec. 2008. Jack-hammering on the balconies may occur and noise may be experienced.

Thumbs up

I can attest to Phil's remark as I was there visiting them & their unit was in great condition, plus they got me drunk a couple of times while I was there, not in their unit, of course! Had a blast with you guy's Phil!

The Galleon has been doing some renovations for a couple of years now which was needed in MHOO. I still think they aren't totally completed all of the units but I could be wrong. Those building's are old but they try hard to keep abreast of what is needed to be done. Everyone is right bout the studio's, try to stay away from them unless money is involved, they aren't all that great but as people have said before, we only sleep & shower so of course its no big deal!

The assignment of a unit depends if you are the owner not sure bout trading as I know when you trade you don't always have a room assignment. You can call but I've heard that's not going to help but what the heck, give it a try, ya never know!

It is good hear the positive comments about the Galleon. Some of the reviews on Trip Advisor are not very good and had me concerned.

When my wife and I stayed there a few years ago we were in a studio. It was like a hotel room kind of small. Most of the time during the day we would hang out at the Tiki Bar or walk around the docks. It is a great location.

I got a trade through II and on the confirmation it is a 2 bdrm, 2 bath in unit # B33

Thanks for the input

My exchange is thru RCI... maybe RCI doesn't assign units ahead of time and leaves that to the resort. I will call as I have nothing to lose... and I do want to try to get a room with a double in the 2nd bedroom. I didn't even think of the bed size in that room and having DH's BIG buddy in a twin would/is a real issue. Drat.. I thought I was all set and now I have this to worry about.

That's interesting I thought 99.9% of all Galleon units were either rented or deposited to RCI. I always add the Galleon to my KW requests thru II just because it's there and I would accept the trade, but I never expect II to have any Galleon inventory. I've been exchanging into KW annually since 2000 and every trade has been to Hyatt's Beach House, a great resort, with an occasional Hyatt Windward Pointe.

Conch Man, we are counting the days till we can do it again! The 1 in 4 is killing me! 16 months before I can look for another unit!
