I smiled when I read that of course its never to early but in this case I can't make a request until I make a ressie at our home resort and that cannot be done under January. I made the request last year sometime in February but wasted time waiting for a 2 bedroom before I realized that just because I own a 2 bedroom does not mean that I can't request a 1 bedroom or a studio. I am still new to all of this and still learning.

I see---yes, it's hard when you can't get ahead of the curve. II's "one year in advance only" rule sometimes makes this tricky. As for when they can go in: DVC can deposit 10-11 months or so in advance. Combine your January start with searching for a harder size, and that may well explain it.

If I got a studio, perhaps DVC would let us "join" the rooms into a 2BR when we check in if that's possible, or so I have read on another board. If they can't, then we would rather have another 1BR for $50/wk extra. Any advice? I would like to decide sooner than later to have everything planned out.
I'm getting in on this discussion pretty late, but did you consider keeping the Pop reservation just for the free dining? The kids would have loved the pools and decorations. You could have visited once in a while.

If you left four people booked there, the value of the meals would have probably been pretty close to the off-season rental rate. You could have easily fed all five of you with four meal credits. Probably with food left over.

We had the free dining a few years ago before a timeshare week at Summer Bay. We had so many food credits left on the last day for the four of us that we got a ton of carryout and had leftovers for days.

Once my DH decided to come, POP would have been way too tight for us. We could have done 2 rooms at POP (if they had one available) but I would have missed the washer/dryer and kitchen and we would have probably eaten ourselves silly!

That is not what he is saying... He is saying you could have kept the Pop Ressie for Dining ONLY and not ever really slept there but sleep at OKW. It ends up being cheaper for your food. You don't even have to go ever to your room you get the free dining though. You check in and get your room key which has your dining credits on it.....

I see, I hadn't thought of that. I guess we still would have overeaten if we'd done it that way so this way we hopefully won't each gain 10 pounds!
