We were there in Oct and got the "gloom". Had a great room with a killer view but for 5 out of 7 days we couldn't even see the coastline let alone see out to the ocean.

Still had a great time but it could have been better.

We have a typical "June Gloom" day today. This is why I would never come in May or June to the Southern CA coast on vacation, if I had a choice. It's depressing but it keeps it cool. When we only go a few miles inland, it is 10/15 degrees warmer and most likely sunny too. Our heater still comes on every morning and is set at 70F.

October is mostly a nice month unless it is smoggy. September used to be the smoggiest month but lately, the weather is no longer predictable. We had rain this week and it rained hard.

John, thanks for the explanation.

I was at San Clemente Cove the week prior to Mother's Day, so I really appreciate the explanation.

Interesting......

We were in Carlsbad last year May 1-8 and the weather was wonderful every day...guess we were just lucky....so Oct/November would be better?

Early May can still be nice like April...its later in May when it is usually overcast. If you want hot then early September can be the best....the summer vacation crowds are down and the weather warm/hot sometimes with Santa Ana winds blowing in from the desert. September through early October is usually very pleasant....it starts to get a little cooler at night late October and November but that is relative....its cooler for Californians....it is actually still very nice....there is a reason many of us put up with the traffic around here.
