Are the flag stamps you are referring to the ones that have a picture of the Lady Liberty on them as well?
Does anyone know how much the stamps with two bluebirds on them are worth.

Anytime my DH went to the postoffice he would buy more stamps whether we needed them or not. I have stamps worth $.34 thru $.41 including the Forever stamps. I was never sure how much the Flag/Liberty or the Bluebirds were worth.

Yeah!!

Yeah, I guess when you count up all your building costs, legal fees, etc. it came to a large dollar amount.
How are the ol' boys doing now that they don't have you to chew on?

In the last ten years or so, there is frequently a first class stamp design that is issued that doesn't show a denomination.

That happens because as the Post Office Commission wants to minimize the lag time between when they announce a postage rate increase and the date the new rate takes effect. They usually make that lag time short enough that the Postal Service needs to have new first class stamps ready to sell in quantity immediately after the rate hike is announced.

To have stamps ready to sell, the Postal Service issues a new first class design without a face amount, and assigns to the stamp the amount of the new first class rate. Usually a new design with a denominated amount is issued shortly after.

*****

When the Post Office first started that practice, those undenominated stamps couldn't be used for International Mail because they didn't show an amount. Apparently the postal services in some countries in some countries wouldn't accept mail that didn't show the exact amount of postage. With later issues that restriction has been removed.

***

Sometimes mail gets through without that added penny of postage. Recently I forgot to add a penny stamp to my state business excise tax payment, but it was delivered anyway.

Lawren - I'm quite surprised!!! You know that language is totally inappropriate.

That's what Jim should be saying to his current Mistress, not his post Mistress.

Lady Lib w flag and the 2 bluebirds are 39 cent stamps.

Here is a good link to our non-denominated stamps and their monetary value:
Alphabetilately: G is for G stamp; All non-denominated US stamps: pictures and rates

Caught red handed again.
Off to the "inappropriate" corner...

There are many first class stamps that don't have the amount stamped on them. I guess they change the design each time so they know how much the stamp is worth. The flag stamps are an example of this. The forever stamps specifically say Forever on them.

In May, the postal clerk said as part of the last increase they will be raising the rates each May 1 cent each May automatically.

Oh, wow! If you're talking about all of that, it is 6 figures!

But, what's a little chunk change?

I thought you were talking about what we paid them to get them to stop harassing us. That was the answer the high-dollar mediator and her attorney friend came up with. The mediator said, "Gosh, it seems so little just to pay them, and get on with your life, even if you don't owe them a penny."

What they are doing now is just hanging out with each other, the harassing of us being stares and evil looks. Sure, one of em still hangs out behind the bushes every now and then, beer in hand, staring, but most of the things they have done have come back to bite them in the ----.

But, I know what you mean about their lack of focus now, and how empty it must seem to not have a reason to get up every day.

Although we did not get to use them in court this time, they know we still have all the video and audio recordings and they know what is on them. Since this problem has been going on for 15 years in our neighborhood, and it is now on the record, that and the recordings should be enough to stop them from harassing us or anyone else.

Nice digression, as I think we have run out of things to say about forever stamps and the Postal Service. :cool.
