We are getting continuing updates on Fay and told to prepare. For the first time in 31 years I don't have to worry about our ex-Key West daughter, who is now living with us, and how safe she will be. After church this morning I noticed all the gas stations had lines, WalMart's parking lot was packed full (although school starts here tomorrow). Our son works at Publix and he said yesterday his store was extremely busy and he volunteered to work on his day off today (OT pay) stocking shelves. I asked him if he would be coming here to stay (he and our oldest DD live in South Ft. Myers) and he said he thought he would just go to the store...big generator and lots of food and probably a TV set! That is IF Fay turns into anything serious. Hope all the rest of the Floridians (Tuggers and non-Tuggers) are ok.
No offense to those who live in Fla. - infact my MIL lives in the Villages. I was just thinking about those who may have waited all year long for a vacation and now a hurricane in the making.... please forgive my oversight.

No offense taken...I, too, feel sorry for those vacationing down here when ever there is a storm of any kind here, or when we have a 'cold spell'. It's not fun for them. I just worry about 'anyone' down here when facing a hurricane, and hope all will be OK .

We are getting DUMPED on here in Melbourne. The storm has been stationary for almost a day. We've already gotten 24" of rain and it's still coming. We are watching the water level rise up and up and up. Both in the back yard from a pond, and in the front from the street. Many roads are closed from flooding. We're advised to stay indoors, and ask for National Guard evacuation if needed.

We think we've got about eight hours before the water level hits the house doors and garage. So we REALLY hope Fay decides to pick up speed and move north!

See ya'll, Mike

Hey Mike,
Hello from Indialantic
Finally calmed down here beachside around 9pm. Almost weird NOT hearing pounding rain and whistling wind... I hope it's really gone now...
Hope you made out okay?
Marge

Wink

Leaving tonight for Marriott Ocean Point and will try to post on the weather there sometime tomorrow if they have an internet room there since I will not be bringing my laptop. Hope our flight gets out on time since we are leaving late on Jet Blue on the last flight out of NY.

Unhappy Report from Marriott OP

Called the resort and they said all is well for now. Some rain but wind has died down and no flooding in the area. They expect intermitant rain over the next week but they heard that storm is going north towards daytona beach and shouldn't effect West palm beach anymore except for the rain. Still don't think we will get much sunshine during our stay.

Thumbs up Fay - don't you come back no more, no more

Marge & Shaggy, thanks, it got a bit hairy, but we made out just fine. There were a lot of homes that got flooded though. I've got a couple of pictures of the National Guard helping evacuate a nearby neighborhood that had waist-deep water inside their homes. They were also keeping out looters.

The water level came within six vertical inches of entering our house and garage before the heavy rain quit. We really thought it was going to come in. We had already moved everything that we could off of the floor onto beds, furniture, counters, and slept on the couches.

Our house got islanded for about a day. Large fish were swimming in water *over the grass* between our house and the neighbor's, in a water channel that connected the pond in back with the street in front. It was weird to see fish swimming in the driveway, and people kayaking down the street....

I started up my car yesterday, and found out it's full of black ants. They must have sought higher ground, and my car parked outside was it!

I referee college soccer games. I had four cancelled game assignments through tomorrow, from Jacksonville down to Melbourne. Due either to weather on the day of the match, or one team could not travel through the storm, or an unplayable field after it had passed.

Our two cats kept moving back and forth between three different doors to look outside while this was going on. My wife said they were looking for a door where it *wasn't* raining and windy!

See ya, Mike

What an experience! Very happy for you that the water stayed out of your home.
Having power throughout the storm was different. Sometimes we lose power when it's just windy!
After the 2004 hurricanes, we watched as neighbors had to move from their homes for several months while repairs were being done. Everyone in our area had blue tarps for roof damage. Everyone but us.. we helped our neighbors as we could, but still felt really guilty for dodging the bullet ourselves. Thankful, but guilty. Three weeks without power was not fun though...
downed custom fence, huge mess on our property and pool, but nothing like our neighbors.
Count your blessings!!
