see, it's not all Brunello...

Cheapskate Wednesday
Starts Now!!!

To all of our members and friends:
Stock up for all of your holiday parties now. This marathon will blow you away!!! The wines running today consist of the last few cases of past favorites, as well as new selections that you are sure to love.

For our newer members, this is the way it works; Cheapskate Wednesday is a marathon type event in the way it runs, but not in its content. My staff and I have tasted over 400 wines from around the world and picked what we believe is to be the best 48 to 60 wines for $5.99-$15.99 each, DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR. This was not an easy task (there were a lot of very woozy people around here for a while). What we believe we have achieved is to give you a great selection of varieties that you may or may not have tasted before, but that will absolutely blow you away at these prices.

The event will start as always at midnight. From 12:01AM to 9:00AM there will be a new wine presented on the site each 30 minutes. The wines will not change even if they sell out. At 9:00 AM the wines will be replaced when sold out, or every 20 minutes, whichever comes first. This lasts until 11:59 PM. We will begin with a wine for $5.99 and escalate until we get to $15.99 and then repeat the process until all the wines have been presented.

The wines will have a picture of the label and a very good description, as well as rating (if one could be found). All the wines will have a 4 BOTTLE MINIMUM FOR FREE SHIPPING and air is available for an additional $2.75 per bottle if you so choose. Orders CANNOT be combined for free shipping.

We will ship all orders beginning Thursday, December 6th, completing every order no later than Tuesday, December 11th. If you have any questions before hand, please email us today. Feel free to ask any questions and we will try to answer them. We wish all of you good luck and hope you all get the wines you wish for. Thank you again for all of your support now and in the future.

Cheers

I still need a chardonnay to add to my itsy bitsy stash at home........so if anybody sees something good, please say the word (although my reds are getting low too, so I wouldn't pass up on a good one or two of those either).

I bought it a while back. It's okay. Better than the Palandri merlot, which was definitely disappointing.

I'm watching, but I'm trying not to buy unless it's really irresistible. We're still swimming in wine, and I just got four bottles delivered yesterday....

Some people have a drinking problem, I have a buying problem.

DH made cheese fondue last night (first time in about ten years) and he used white wine in that! Half a bottle down, half a case to go.

I hope it's good! Most of the cheapies I've gotten from the site have been VERY good--that merlot was a rare exception.

If anyone sees a South African Simonsig Pinotage (2003), it was $16.99 when it was up a few weeks ago, I'm hoping they'll put it up today for $14.99, I got the last two bottles last time and it is fantastic, just tried it last night. Then again, it sold out last time, so they prob don't have any more :cry2:

This cab looked promising until I hit this description....

Brilliant ruby red hue. Black currant, menthol, dried herb and oak aromas. Medium-full with good concentration, this is a well-made Cabernet with herbal overtones, moderate tannins and tart acidity. (tasted on Jul-01-2004)

Menthol? Dried herb? Herbal overtones? Tart acidity? Uck. I'm trying to put these flavors together in my imagination and I get...a sour menthol-clove cigarette?

Yeah, sounds nasty. But the chilean one up now sounds yummy, and there are some really nice Chilean wines:

The nose presents an ample array of aromas with ripe red fruit accents plus blackberry, plum, and cassis, framed by vanilla oak and a touch of smoke.
The palate shows the soft, ripe, velvety tannins of this medium-bodied, well-structured wine. The long finish is superb.
The Wine Enthusiast Plenty of barrel-driven coffee and mocha aromas set the stage for cassis, black cherry and vanilla flavors. Feelwise, this is a moderately tight, structured wine with persistence and power. The finish, meanwhile, is chocolaty and stout. Itís yet another well-priced í05 Cabernet out of Chile. Score: 89. ó

Yes, this Chilean one is speaking to me, too. Maybe if I stall long enough it will be gone....nope, still there, damn!

I have heard of this brand but never had it, Sounds good though.

After last night I am wined out, We had 4 very expensive bottles. The cheapest was $80 which was the Ruffino gold the most Expensive was The Tiganello and the 2000 Brunello and we ended it with a Hess Select reserve vintage. Bocca was felling good as was I, Scott cut out early.

........it sounds fabulous! I'm going to pass on this though. With the Christmas season and spending spree I've been on, I'm trying to stay with the budget wines today (under $10/bottle). So far I've gotten the Feudo and Tyrell's Vineyards which helps re-stock my whites, almost balancing out the reds I have at home.

Please keep posting good ones, as I'm still looking for another one or two to pick up. Thanks much guys!

I've actually HAD wines with strange menthol-y qualities and I thought something had gone horribly wrong. It tasted like an alcoholic Hall's.

Yesterday in the NY Times (but I didn't see it till this morning), there was a big article about how wine prices will be going up in the next 3-5 months. They said that wine producers have been holding the line for as long as the dollar has been dropping, but they can't hold out much longer. Biggest rises in wine from countries that use the Euro.

We should have bought MORE! :cry2:

Right now there are many imports like wines from Italy which are better and sell for less than our own wines from the US. f you saw some of the huge vineyards in Europe you can see why they are less since they are super huge I had a feeling that the Euro was going to play it's part. They do not want to raise there price to us for fear of us boycotting them Remember FRANCE. I still do not buy any French wines.

The Times article is pretty interesting--it talked about the way wine is marketed versus the way beer is marketed. Also discussed how California winemakers buy wine from other areas because they can't meet the demand for their wines. Oil prices are part of the picture, too.

Here's the link.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/05/dining/05pour.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

We have a friend who makes his own wine and recently I went to Corrado's winemaking store in Clifton. Have you ever been there, Frank? Very fascinating! They sell crates of grapes, bottles, corks, presses, oak barrels, stainless steel vats, everything you need to make your own wine.

After seeing all this stuff, I have NO IDEA how home wine makers afford it. (I actually have no idea how commercial wine makers afford it, either!) Our friend is probably spending $6-8 a bottle. He enjoys it as a hobby, and his wine is good, but when you can buy a decent commercial bottle of wine for about $10....
