Our neighbors own there and love it. They are booked to go in May, and want us to join them. I'm wondering what people here think of Lawai Beach in general, and also would love to see a floor plan of their larger units. We are not used to travelling with another couple in the same unit, and I'm afraid we might end up getting on each other's nerves if there is not enough privacy.

My solution would be to exchange our own unit for one at Lawai Beach, or a neighboring resort if it is close enough. I thought maybe the Mariott Waiohai might work.

Thanks, I'd appreciate any feedback I can get.

NNacy:wink: :

We TS with friends and family. We stayed at LBR, in the DCB, with my wife's brother and his wife. The next week we were at the resort formerly know as the Embassy at Poipu. We have vacationed with them many times, with another longtime-friends couple every January and with as many as 11 in our extended family every other year. We did the Carlsbad Inn with a neighbor couple several years ago.

All the girls in my wife's family go to Fairfield Nashville every summer and then stay at the Opryland Hotel at Thanksgiving. I think they get like 6 or 8 in a room. Girls seems to do that when guys can't. I know you won't find me sharing a bed with my BIL. I'd sleep in the car before doing that.

In January we have three couples going to Grand Cayman and then to Siesta Key in Florida.

The most uncomfortbale situation, if there is going to be one, is if it is a one bedroom unit, there is only one bathroom, and you have to go through the bedroom to get to it. There's something about bodily functions that makes it awkward.

But we do just fine. When we have that situation I locate the public bathrooms first thing, so I know where to head if the one in our unit is spoken for.

Pardon me for being blunt, but if you can fart in their presence you should be able to vacation with them for a week.

So, there you have it, my rule of thumb. You may name it the fart rule if you wish. :D

Two couples and one bathroom wouldn't be our cup of tea. Sleeping on a sofa in a living room is OK so long there is a private bathroom for the other couple too. It may be OK with parents and their small kids. JMHO.

First, ask your neighbors which building their timeshare is located in. Lawai Beach Resort has three buildings: Coral, Ali, and Banyon. The later two buildings are preferred. If they have a 2BR, I would think it should not be a problem sharing with another couple. If it's a 1BR, then I would not share with another couple even if it had two baths. Using sofa-bed for a week is just not ideal for me.

For exchange, the best would be (as you mentioned) the Marriott. However, unless you are a Marriott timeshare owner, this will not be an easy exchange. Lawai and Poipu Vacation Resort (formerly known as Embassy Poipu) will be a bit easier to trade into. Both are good resorts.

For balance of opinion, because 2 bedroom beachfront resorts where and when we like to go are at a premium, we normally share a one-bedroom, one-bath with our friends.

We simplify the who gets the bedroom question, by saying, upfront, we'll take the livingroom.

It is not ideal, but we don't have a problem with it.

Now that we have two, 2 bedroom units booked for next January, two other couples are invited.

Our exchange to LBR was into a 2-bedroom unit in the DCB, the first unit next to the parking lot on the ground floor, and it was just fine. We had our own little lanai to drink fruity drinks and watch the sunset. The DCB pool, hot tub and BBQs were convenient.

The only problem when we were there was that LBR doesn't do anything to control parking out front, except for signs, and beach and restaurant people took up the convenient spaces. We just parked in the parking garage and walked from there.

No big deal, certainly not enought to spoil paradise, and certainly not as inconvenient as a full day, or night, of flying to get there and back.

I'd opt for a second unit, preferably in the same resort.

HTSE gets oodles of Lawaii Beach Resort. If you have a like for like week to deposit with them they would be your very best bet for an exchange. May should not be too difficult to get.

Thanks, everyone, for the info. I believe our friends have a 2BR in the Banyan building, so I guess we could probably make it work. I'm just not used to travelling with another couple, but it culd turn out to be a lot of fun.

My husband and I stayed at Lawai Beach Resort last January, in a two-bedroom unit in the Banyan Building.

There was more than enough room - the unit was huge with two full bathrooms.

We stayed at Lawai Beach two years ago. Lawai has a great location on the sunny south shore and is convenient to shopping and restaurants. Right across the street is a small rocky beach which offers some good snorkeling. Poipu Beach down the road has excellent snorkeling and fun boogieboard waves. We own three weeks on the north shore so it was fun to spend a week on the south. We had a two bedroom unit and shared it with our daughter, son-in-law and their baby. LOL, I have to agree with some of you--we really want a two bedroom/TWO BATH unit which is more convenient. BUT, if you have a chance to go to Kauai and stay in a "free" condo, go for it--one bathroom or two bathroom!

I agree.....HTSE always has inventory. Just keep an eye on the availability.

A separate unit is the way to go....even if you can fart in front of them.

Yep, guilty as charged! Mahalo for the welcome! And, sigh, Shearwater is awesome! We own at Ka E'o Kai (even though it's not longer a Pahio property, it will always be Pahio to us). We'll be on island for 3 weeks in August--can't wait to get out of this heat!!!!!
