A bulk banking is when a resort deposits a lot of inventory into an exchange company at one time, instead of the individual member deposits that trickle in. Some resorts do this with excess inventory, others handle all the deposits for their owners and determine which weeks will be deposited (this is usually limiting to floating ownerships). The result is a lot of inventory, usually covering most weeks in the period listed. Some of the ones listed here are a little confusing, b/c they include stragglers/last minute cancellations (Jan in Park City, for example), where the bulk d/n really take place until later (in Park City, the bulk inventory is usually off-season, April through November).

Hi,

What is bulk banking?

Thanks!

Certain resorts BULK spacebank with the big exchange companies such as RCI and Interval.

Sometimes when we search for exchange opportunities to share with our membership; we notice consecutive weeks at a single resort for months if not a year at a time and we note these with the word BULK in the thread title.

A BULK bank will, on occasion, if you see it early enough, significantly effect the amount of trade power you need to get one of those weeks for yourself.

I hope I have helped you understand how important it is to jump on these as quickly as you can.

Always check our exchange opportunity boards.

Bulk Banking is when a resort deposits a LOT of weeks into the system all at the same time. My experience has been that this is an "RCI" term
- not usually applicable to II resorts. An exceptions seems to be II Starwood resorts - Sheraton and Westins - where the 'company' chooses and deposits the week for exchange - not the individual owners. So one day there will be NO Westin Mission Hills available on II and then the next day there are MANY units, all sizes and all dates from January thru June.
This is a true Bulk Banking.

Sometimes with II resorts you will also see a sudden large deposits of units - usually unsold developer inventory (I see it with the newer, in-sale Marriotts) - appear all in one day. this would also be considered a 'bulk banking'.

Though you are slow typist, you make an interesting point. I wonder if the off-season Marriotts should really be considered "bulk bankings," or if they are just unwanted exchange inventory that collects to look like bulk...

I don't really think that the off-season Marriotts should be considered 'bulk bankings' unless they show up, all at once. Normally, these are sitting there, for weeks, if not months on end. Same goes for most other resorts.

I agree with Pat regarding Sheraton. Sheraton does more 'bulk banking' than Marriott. They will deposit a few months of units, all in one shot.

I think Mike had a lot of fun posting these. I was laughing on some of the ones he found as There were a couple in Vegas that shocked me that were there as a bulk,

Pat you think you type slow, :nono: this is slow:eek:

As I said, "Bulk Banking" is really and RCI term as there are MANY RCI resorts that do not give their owners the option of what week to deposit - to me, that stinks!

Marriott does NOT bulk bank....but they will deposit their own unsold inventory (after keeping units available to rent) in 'clumps'.

To be a 'true' bulk banking to me means that the inventory is NOT there one day and then all there the next.
Examples - Manhattan Club, Morrits Tortuga and Grand

Thank you to the OP for doing ALL those sightings...we all appreciate it
(I appreciate you too, Ang :D )

True we see it more in RCI but my sister's VDP changed a few years ago to not let her assign her II deposit. So I think it is happening at II too now.
