How is Hawaii over the Christmas Break? How is availability of timeshares and air prices? We are looking at going in 2008 or 2009.

1. Very nice but crowded. :)

2. Poor availability.

3. Pretty high, similiar to summer.

I'd pick another time or, if you are determined, start an ongoing search with RCI or II 18 months out. Or do you own a t/s week there?

Limited availability even with a good trader. Week 52 is a hard one almost anywhere.

I will defer to the Hawaii experts; but I believe Kauai has it's rainiest season in January.

You're best option is to try for a direct exchange with someone who either owns a Hawai`i week 52 or who has a floater that can reserve a week 52.

If you don't have a week to offer that is sufficiently enticing to get them to do a swap, then you should expect that trying get a week 52 through an exchange company may be difficult. Your best options are probably with Trading Places or HTSE.

We did that once, and car rentals and airfares were quite a bit higher than when we'd been over not-holiday periods.

There were last-minute exchanges available in addition to the 2 we had ... so you can maybe settle for something less than perfect, and be ready to pay another exchange fee if the upgrade is worth it to you.

Whale-watching tours and other events were more booked up, but not really too bad.

We went to the Bay Club on the big Island from Dec 26 to Jan 1, 2003. It was a great deal to get into a nice place for a week but we paid big bucks for airfare and car rental.

The Luau at the Marriott was over crowded on New Years Eve but the other activities we did that week were not overly crowded.
