My DH says no more wine until we make more of a dent in the cases we have in the basement. I haven't even allowed myself to look at the marathon.

I've been keeping an eye on it, but like la madre chalada we've got a glut of wine at home. I've worked it down quite a bit since the first of the year, but there's some stuff on the way - with plenty of the very good Taurus on hand. I still cast a longing glance at some of the Tuscans, though, and if a nice temprenaillo or ribera shows up I might pull out the card.

And I was trying so hard to forget about this! I may just peep periodically...

They've been featuring quite a few Italian and French reds - since wine.woot doesn't offer any of those WTSO has become a venue of choice. But so far all of the offerings have been out of my price range. I'll normally buy about four bottles in those price ranges per year - those are for special holiday dinners with family. Otherwise I try focus on sturdy, rustic wines for less than $12/bottle, though I will go a bit higher when I think there's an exceptional value.

I really perk up when WTSO offers a six-years or older solid Tempranillo that for under $11, like the Taurus I flagged about a month ago.

BTW - to my thinking that Taurus still has enough tannin in it that it could probably easily sit for another year or two. Next time I fill a box to go in my under stairway storage "cellar" I'll put some of the Taurus in there.

added note: they're also changing the offers quickly. Sometimes something is up less than four minute, which doesn't allow time to do any research on the offering. At that speed, if I don't know it I'm not going to drop over $100 to find out whether or not I like it.

No buys for me. Nothing that met my criteria.

This was a different marathon from previous ones. This appeared to be almost exclusively wines that are marketed at the high end. I don't know if the wines themselves are high end, but that certainly appeared to be the base pricing point.

I have been completely swamped and didn't get back to look after all. I'll live!

Listen, you can always come over to my house and have a glass of wine to ease the pain.

Wacky, sounds like we should both go to Frank's, he needs help opening up space!
