We have a 575 gallon tank. I called the propane company because while we were traveling we got a notice that they no longer bill our credit card automatically. I asked to pay until we leave for the winter. They mentioned they charge to read the meter monthly. We asked if it could be waived since we are often away for six months.
The manager called back today. He offered several options to avoid the monthly meter reading charge. One is to pay for all the propane currently in the 575 gallon tank. At least $1200.
I looked at our monthly bills for recent years. It seems like meter reading and annual tank rental are the main costs. It could take many years to use up the propane in the tank.
We only use propane for a gas stove and to heat our jacuzzi.
